Transformation of the Day: Janelle lost 110 pounds. This petite mom of 3 saw the weight pile on over the years due to pregnancies and yo-yo dieting with various programs. At 270 pounds and 4’10” tall, she decided that weight loss surgery was the right option for her. She stuck with her eating plan and worked out regularly to shed the weight. Here is what she shared with us…
My name is Janelle B. and I want to submit my weight loss story because I believe that it will help inspire others. I started having kids at 15 years old, so I lost my girlish figure quite young. However, I didn’t really start struggling with my weight until I had my 3rd child at the age of 22. I gained 100 lbs while being pregnant and weighed about 180 pounds once I had my son. For the next 10-15 years, my weight yo-yo’d and by the age of 36 I ended up at my highest ever weight, 270 pounds (height: 4’10”)
I tried multiple diets, pills and exercise plans where I would lose 30-40 ls. Then, once I stopped those methods, I would gain twice as much weight back. In 2015, I was tired of dealing with my weight going up and down and I needed to take control by having weight loss surgery. I decided to go with the gastric sleeve procedure and had it done in January of 2015. By December 2015, with a diet of less than 1000 calories a day and exercise 3-4 days a week, I loss 110 pounds. I was basically on a high protein, low carb, low sugar diet. I currently weigh 160lbs and I’m at a size that I like. Now, I am just maintaining my weight, as I do not want to lose anymore weight.
For exercise, I would go to workout classes like Zumba, Pilates, and Body Pump, since the cardio room was not my friend. I absolutely hated working on the elliptical or treadmill, so I had to find something that worked for me. I currently do not have a lot of extra skin, so I am now just enjoying the place where I am. I currently eat about 1600 calories a day and eat what I want. However, through this process I have had to learn HOW TO SAY NO, how to track the foods I eat and how to balance what it is I am eating. I was so proud of myself that I made it thru the holiday season, did not gain 1 pound and still enjoyed myself. I now see that I am in control food and it does not control me any longer.
My advice for others is that the first step in losing weight is to stop comparing yourself to others. Once you make up your mind, start your journey. Just know that you will fall off your plan at some point. No problem. Just pick yourself up, keep moving towards your goal and don’t beat yourself up about it. You are beautiful now and you will be beautiful after.
