Transformation of the Day: Jamie lost 75 pounds with Keto. She was tired of her sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits. By planning out her meals in advance and becoming more aware of what she is eating, she has truly transformed. Check out her story.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
I was self-motivated to change my lifestyle from one that was sedentary and full of unhealthy eating habits. I was tired of walking to class and easily becoming out of breath. I was also tired of not having the energy to do fun stuff or adventurous stuff.
The progress that I had already made inspired me during the times when I wanted to give up.
How did you change your eating habits?
I follow the Keto lifestyle. I transformed my diet from being full of carbs and sweets to one that is low in carbs (20-30 grams of carbs daily) and high in healthy fats. I personally went a step further and eliminated red meat (beef and pork) from my diet.
I increased my daily water intake to 60-90 ounces a day and limited my alcohol intake to 2-3 glasses a month. Also, I watched my portion sizes and planned my meals every week. After losing the first 50 pounds, I started to incorporate fasting into my routine. I ate during the hours of 12-8 pm and fasted for the rest of the day.
What did your workout routine consist of?
I only started working out after I lost the first 50 pounds (from just adjusting my eating habits). I joined the Camp Gladiator program (@campgladiatornashville). I try to attend Camp Gladiator at least twice a week and workout at my local YMCA or park at least once a week. My New Year’s goal is to take working out more seriously.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 288 pounds. My current weight is 213 pounds.
What is your height?
My height is 5’4″.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey on March 1, 2019. I lost my first 20 pounds in the first month. I have been able to lose 75 pounds in 8 months. I am currently resetting my goals to lose another 5-10 pounds before the year is over (December goal). My ultimate goal is to lose 100 pounds before my first Keto anniversary arrives in March 2020.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, I did not undergo any surgery or procedure.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
I have learned that you have to plan and prepare for this journey. You have to take time out of your schedule and plan time to make your food and to work out. I have also learned that this is a marathon and not a race.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
- I would tell people never to compare themselves or their journey to others, focus on yourself, and take things at your speed. There will be good days, and there will be bad days. Stay consistent.
- Try to the best of your ability to eliminate outside distractions that may hinder your weight loss progress. This includes people/family/friends and an unhealthy environment. (i.e., clean out that refrigerator and cabinets with unhealthy foods)
- Learn to read labels. Get familiar with what carbs, fiber, fats, and sugars are.
- Drink lots of water, even if you hate it. Add water enhancers that do not contain a lot of sugar or lemon drops.
- Understand that everyone will not understand your weight loss journey and that you may be treated differently, before, during, and after your journey. This has nothing to do with you, so stay focused.
- Try new recipes.
- Have fun. DO YOU!
