Update Dec 2016
Today’s Featured Weight Loss Story: Jaleesa went from a size 16 to a size 8. Starting out at 215 pounds, she has used practical eating habits and regular exercise to change her body. She believes in non scale victories and lifestyle change. Check out what she shared with us about her journey:
Hi, My name is Jaleesa. I started my weight loss journey in 2010. My starting weight was 215 pounds and I went from a a size 16 to a size 8 (I’m 5″6) . I’m not so fixed on the ideal of the scale now so I don’t weigh myself so I don’t know my current weight. I don’t think people should be so fixed on the scale so instead I look at my progress in pictures or by the fit of my clothes. This lifestyle change has made me a better person inside and out!!
My motivation was being a size smaller and being determined to never get back to that size/weight again . I eliminated all fast food, fried food, deserts and soda pop. Now, I usually eat baked chicken, shrimp, fruit, veggies, nuts, yogurt, granola, etc. My workouts when I first started were simple. I just worked out 3 times a week, with at least 30 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of strength training. Now, I don’t do as much cardio as I used to but I’ll include it in my strength training. My advice for other people is to stick with it and if you feel like giving up look at old pictures so you won’t go back.

Jaleesa!
Sistah, you are FAB! I am placing you on my inspiration board. I am currently 215lbs and 5’6…..it’s my “starting point” my “before”………..there will be an “AFTER”….throwing away the scales today and concentrating on just going from “elastic waist” to “zipper” and so forth.
I’m getting my camera out, and will chronicle my journey with pictures!
Your success is encouraging!
Stay happy, healthy and strong.
Be Blessed

Thank you…I needed to see this. I am currently 215 pounds and 5’6. Around March I joined a gym and began to work out and change my eating habits. Two months into my journey I’ve stumbled and haven’t been to the gym in about six weeks. I’ve resorted back to junk food and I’m currently trying to get back on track. I think I was too fixated on the scale. While I saw slight changes in my body and the way I felt the scale barely moved. Seeing you gives me a renewed sense of hope and determination. I now realize it will take time and I will sometimes stumble but I am determined. You look great…congratulations!

Great Advice!! No scale…I use the scale as a tool…not as the only determining factor of my health goals. You look fantastic and Inspire me that great things are possible. Keep up the healthy goals.

I agree with you. I weighed myself and put my scale away. I started at 218 and now 200 and and my goal is 140. I do as much as I can due to the fact that I’ve had two back surgeries. I know that it will take time and I’m going to put my best foot forward.

Way to go Jalessa! ! I agree the scale can reak havoc on your goals. You can tell your success by how your clothes fit.

Congratulations, you were beautiful then and your beautiful now. Thank you for the inspiration. I was doing great at one point last year but work and stress as a teacher kept me hostage. I feel my body yearning for the daily workout and seeing your post encourages and empowers me to get back on my grind. Haven’t gained the weight back but I’ve gained back some inches. During my spring break I plan to find my way back.
Again thank you.

Thanks for sharing , you look great and that’s the kind of motivation I needed. It’s always a bit more difficult mentally with having a full time job, being a wife and mother but reading all the success stories is very encouraging.
