Transformation of the Day: Falicia lost 151 pounds. She is determined to live a healthy lifestyle and see her children grow up. With support from her doctor, she committed to a 6-month diet to qualify for surgery, researched weight loss surgery options, and had surgery in 2021.
What is your motivation?
My motivation is my kids. I want to be around to watch them grow up. Everyone around me was dying from Covid-19, and it scared me because I was living an unhealthy life. Food was taking me over.
I first expressed my concern to my doctor back in February 2020. My doctor prescribed medicine to help boost my energy, cut my appetite and increase weight loss. She also asked if I would be interested in having weight loss surgery. I had to agree to a six-month diet plan to be approved for the surgery and show her my progress.
How did you change your eating habits? What was your workout routine?
I stopped eating bread, pasta, and sweets. I increased my water intake and daily exercise. I started by walking about 4 miles three times a week. This plan helped me lose 13 pounds in the first month.
Did you ultimately have weight loss surgery?
My doctor wanted me to have Gastric Bypass surgery. However, I did not like the outcomes I learned about when I did my research. I also did not feel like that surgery was for me because I have horrible acid reflux. Fast forward to August 2021: That is when I said yes to the Gastric Sleeve. It has been a tough change, but it has been a change for the better. I am slowly relearning my body. Every day is a challenge, and I am here to work through it with a smile on my face and happiness in my heart. My energy level is through the roof. I can keep up with my kids now!
Starting Weight/Current Weight
My starting weight was 350 pounds at 5’5″. I currently weigh 199 pounds. My goal weight is 157 pounds.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
Do what makes you happy by all means necessary! You wake up every day and look in the mirror. If there is something you’re not happy about, change it. I was bullied all my life about my weight, especially my “backfat,” so I changed it for my mental health. My self-esteem has always been high. Now it has sky-rocketed!”
