We featured Erin’s transformation story back in 2016. (She lost 50 lbs) She never thought that she’d have to start over but when an accident resulted in a titanium plate and 16 screws in her leg, she had to find the strength to begin again. Check out her inspirational update.
Hey y’all! I have some major updates. On March 31, 2017 ,I had an accident in Bali and broke my leg. It was one of the craziest moments of my life. I had surgery on the island to put my tibia back together. I have a titanium plate and 16 screws in my right leg.
I was strong during the chaos, but the dust settled when I got home and I fell apart. I went from traveling the world, working out, etc. to needing my mom’s help just to shower. I was depressed and stuck in my bed for the most part, so I ate whatever I felt like chowing down on. After months of intentional self work and diving deep into self love/self care, I came out of my slump and took a more positive approach to my situation. It was about 5 months before I walked on my own, with no support or bad pain. Although I was back on my feet, I’d developed terrible eating habits… which we all know are HARD to break.
In December 2017, I finally got on the scale. I’d gained about 30 pounds since before my injury. The number didn’t scare me, but my unhealthy habits did. I’m educated and know that the way I was living was literally killing me. I decided I would go on this transformation journey again. This time simply to feel my best every day.
In January 2018, I returned to a plant-based lifestyle, and I’m down 18 pounds so far! (from 208 lbs to 190 lbs) I also started moving my body again. It’s still a little scary after recovering from such a major injury, but I’m working on it.
When I was on crutches, I promised myself I would dance every day when I healed. I’ve been doing that, plus body weight exercises, kettle bell swings, and occasionally lifting weights.
I wanted to share this update because I never thought I’d have to start over. I had spent years getting healthy and fit. Then it was gone in a matter of seconds. I hope my story will encourage someone to push through even when it feels impossible. Find a support system that will lift you up, have some type of spiritual practice, and always be gentle/patient with yourself.
