Transformation of the Day: Erika lost 150 pounds. She focused on her big Why and figured out what works for her. With Gastric Bypass surgery, exercise, therapy, healthier eating habits, she is thriving.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
My motivation was my Why. My Why is that I would like to live a full life and be as healthy as possible. Becoming healthier helped me to stay on track.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
Yes, I am Bypassed & Blessed. I had Gastric Bypass surgery on October 6, 2020. Prior to surgery, I lost 50 pounds (I lost 30 of those pounds to prepare for surgery). I lost 100 lbs post-op. I try to stay physically active and track my weight with a WiFi scale. I also attend therapy bi-weekly to assist with healing from the mental behaviors that caused me to gain weight.
How did you change your eating habits?
Because I had weight loss surgery, I have to be conscious of my portion sizes. I have eliminated sugar, and I am cautious of my carbs intake. I have increased my water intake as well. I also read the nutritional information for everything I eat and track my meals with the Lose It app.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
I go to the gym 2-3 times a week. I exercise for at least 30 minutes and get 10,000 steps a day.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 362 pounds. My current weight is 212 pounds.
What is your height?
I’m 5’5″
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
My journey began around 2015. I had many stops and starts along the way. I decided to add the tool of Gastric Bypass surgery in 2020.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lessons that I have learned are to trust the process, and that weight is 80% mental. Also, weight loss is not linear. Depending on the number on the scale alone can be discouraging. Celebrate every non-scale victory.
Also, it’s best to seek therapy throughout the process. We can have baggage we don’t realize that we are carrying that can lead to obstacles on the journey.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s. Stay focused on your goal and remember your Why. Also, trust the process. It has its ups and downs, but you can do this.
