Update 2019: Should out to Elena! 40 pounds down.
Transformation of the Day: Elena lost 32 pounds. By taking her journey one day at a time and making healthy habits part of her routine, she has transformed. She found lots of inspiration in the success stories of women who started at the same size she was. Check out how she did it.
What was your motivation? What inspired you when you wanted to give up?
I started looking up weight loss transformation stories on Instagram to get inspired. The stories that helped the most were ones where the woman started at about the same size as me and I was able to see her journey. It made me feel like change was possible and if someone else like me could do it, I could too.
It was really about being consistent. I told myself initially “Just get through 3 months”. Once the weight started coming off, my confidence went up and I wanted it to continue. Then, my own before and after pics became my inspiration. Every time I felt discouraged, I’d look at my own transformation on Instagram.
How did you change your eating habits?
I cut out all sodas and juices. During first month, I cut out alcohol. I also refrained from fried foods for at least a month, and now I eat very little fried foods. I stopped going to fast food restaurants and made sure I had healthy food at home. I started buying more vegetables and cooked all my meals (or ate Lean Cuisine meals). At night, when I had cravings, I would eat popcorn or a Popsicle. All the meat I ate was either baked or sauteed.
What did your workout routine look like?
I didn’t work out much at all during the first month of this journey. I was focused on eating right. I started to incorporate workouts by going to a Pound workout class where they use drum sticks in the aerobics routine. I get bored easily, so I like to try different things. I also tried cycling classes and aerobics classes at LA Fitness. Then, I started looking up workout routines online and would workout at home using my own bodyweight. I did squats, push ups, planks, sprints, walking, etc.
What was your starting weight, current weight and goal weight?
I started at 190 pounds and now I weigh 158 pounds. (height: 5’5″) My goal initially was 145 pounds but today I’m more concerned with sculpting and toning. My current goal is based more on a look then a number.
When did you start your journey?
I started my journey on 4/21/2017. I have lost weight and gained lots of muscle. I am able to lift and do a lot more physically then I could before.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
Consistency is key! It starts with making a decision, but then you MUST stick to it. Even if you fall off, you just have to get right back up and keep going. Just don’t stop.
What advice do you have for people who want to lose weight?
Keep going. Find something or someone that inspires you. Set goals for yourself with specific rewards and take it one day at a time.
