Transformation of the Day: Elaine lost 50 pounds. Her mother, who she lost to breast cancer in 2014, taught her the value of exercise and self-care. Elaine decided to look at weight loss as a journey and not a race. Check out her story.
What was your motivation? What inspired you when you wanted to give up?
My motivation was my mom. I lost her to breast cancer in 2014. She was always extremely active, and at an early age, she instilled in me how important it is to exercise and take care of my body.
On the days that I wanted to give up, I would remember her advice. “Take one day at a time.” When I looked at weight loss as a journey rather than a race, I began to embrace healthy habits instead of quick fixes.
How did you change your eating habits?
I went plant-based which helped me tremendously. Before, I would eat a ton of processed foods and sugar. I saw major results with my weight, but also my skin (I have eczema). My mood/energy levels also began to improve significantly.
What did your workout routine consist of?
My workout routine consists of HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training), strength training, Pilates & LISS (Low-Intensity Steady State Cardio). I work out 5-6 days a week for an hour. My routine will vary, so I don’t get bored. I also make sure to challenge myself.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was around 195 pounds. My current weight is between 145-150 pounds.
What is your height?
I am 5 feet, 5 1/2 inches tall.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I yo-yo dieted majority of my life. However, this time around, I wanted to make it a lifestyle. I started in 2017, and it took me roughly one year to lose 50 pounds, but I’ve been able to keep it off.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Love your journey. Often times when you start to lose weight you get so focused on the end goal. It’s important to take it slow and create habits so you can make healthy living part of your life.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Find what works for you. Every routine isn’t going to work for everyone. Make it fun, Sis., and I promise you will stick with it. Also, don’t be too hard on yourself. It takes patience and consistency to see long-term results.
