Transformation of the Day: Dominique lost 85 pounds by doing Keto, practicing Intermittent Fasting, and working out. After she was laid off from her job in the hospitality industry due to the pandemic, she started her transformation journey.
I have devoted myself to the hospitality industry for the past 13 years, but when COVID-19 shut New Orleans down, the industry didn’t love me back. I was furloughed and eventually laid off months later.
I always wanted the weight to just fall off, but I never did any of the work until April 2020. Initially, I started riding my bike and walking every day, sometimes twice a day. My mindset was to not return to work bigger than I was when I was furloughed. Once I got laid off, I decided to keep going.
I should note that I’m 5’9″, and I’ve always been told, “You wear your weight well.” Well, I was tired of wearing it well, lol. I’ve lost 85 pounds, and I feel amazing! My confidence is through the roof.
How long did your transformation take?
By November 11, 2020, I lost a total of 81 pounds by doing Keto, Intermittent Fasting, and working out. I’m not finished with my journey just yet, but I’m very proud of how far I’ve come.
How did you change your eating habits? What is your workout routine?
I joined a Keto challenge that I found via Instagram by @Ketochayla. My goodness, she made it so easy for me! I’ve been in her challenges since April 11. Before the gyms opened back up, I was walking and riding my bike.
The gyms opened back up in June, so I started working out at the gym. I had a trainer for a couple of months but couldn’t afford to keep him because I’m still unemployed. I did cardio and weight training for toning as I lost weight. I currently hit the gym 5-6 days a week, sometimes twice a day.
I am diligent about drinking my gallon of water every single day. I cut back on all bread, pasta, rice, and potatoes… Any and everything with heavy starches and carbs.
I’m not finished, but I am so proud of how far I’ve come during such tumultuous times. Working out has saved me during one of the worst times of my life.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I did not have any surgical procedures. I’ve been doing this the hard, natural way.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
I can understand anyone who is looking to start who doesn’t know where to start because that was me for years. I’ve been plus size my entire life. It doesn’t mean you have to stay there.
There are so many different avenues you can take. Keto and the group setting that Chayla provides worked for me. Find your “why” and keep that in mind as you maneuver throughout the journey. YOUR journey is YOUR journey; no one else’s.
Sometimes the mirror and the scale don’t love me back. Mentally, I still see myself as the person that I was months ago. I get discouraged sometimes when I don’t see drastic changes or the scale goes back up. I’m still learning to love this process and enjoy all the ups and downs that come with it. Taking pictures and comparing has been monumental for me. What my mind won’t let me see, a picture tells it all.
