Dominique lost 42 pounds this year. She was tired of starting over and never sticking with a plan. This time, she committed to healthy eating habits and worked with a trainer for extra motivation.
My name is Dominique, and I’m from New Jersey. I have lost over 40 pounds during the quarantine.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
My motivation had a lot to do with being tired of always starting over. I’ve wanted to lose weight forever, but I just never stuck to a plan.
Now, I look back at my results and how far I’ve come. My results give me a boost to continue. Just remember, this is a life long journey. I didn’t gain this weight overnight, so I can’t expect to lose it quickly.
How did you change your eating habits?
My eating habits had to change. I am a fan of sugar, so limiting sweets was very important. I also limited my carb intake and increased my water intake.
I like a lot of variety. Some of my go-to foods included protein shakes and steak or chicken with veggies. I have learned to enjoy fresh veggies more.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
I work out about 3 to 5 days a week. My workout routine includes lifting weights, cardio, and HIIT training. Kettlebell swings and sled pushes are two of my favorite exercises.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight in January was 290 pounds. When I saw that number on the scale, I knew I had to do something. Right now, I weigh 248 pounds. My goal weight is to be at 190 pounds.
What is your height?
I’m 5’11”.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started in February by exercising with a trainer (someone who can give me some extra motivation). I’ve been on my journey now for eight months and still going. Some days are better than others, but I just remember it’s not about merely losing weight. It’s about bettering your lifestyle and becoming the best version of you!
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
Surgery was not part of my journey.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
That one little hiccup is not going to ruin everything. It’s okay if you had something “you weren’t supposed to” as long as you return to your good habits. You just can’t stop. Keep going and watch. Results shall come!
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Just get started. Don’t wait till Monday or the 1st of the month. START TODAY! Every day, just focus on being better than you were yesterday. Watch what happens if you don’t give up this time!
