Transformation of the Day: Devonna lost 70 pounds. This proud mom wanted to do something about her high blood pressure and pre-diabetes. Bariatric surgery and exercise are the tools she used to transform her eating habits and overall lifestyle.
My name is Devonna G., and I’ve lost 70 pounds. What made me start this journey was having high blood pressure and being pre-diabetic. It was time for a change. So after doing it on my own and failing, I decided to look into bariatric surgery. On November 2, 2021, I had the RNY Bypass surgery. With the help of this tool, I changed my eating habits and began exercising.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
I went from a starting weight of 320 pounds to 250 pounds.
What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
What inspired me when I wanted to give up was my kids.
How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits by switching to a high protein, low carb eating style. I cut out soda, and I drink lots of water.
What did your workout routine consist of? How many days a week did you work out?
I exercise 3 to 4 times a week. I walk 2 miles or go to the gym and work out for 45 minutes. I just rotated different exercises in the gym. I also do squats and jumping jacks, and jump rope.
What is your height?
My height is 5’8″.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far is to take care of myself and love every moment of my journey.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
My advice would be to start and never give up on yourself. It doesn’t matter how long it takes to get to the finish line. As long as you don’t give up, you will get there.
