Transformation of the Day: Denise lost 39 pounds. She found her motivation to get healthy when she began taking Metformin for pre-diabetes. She joined a weight loss program, found the right mix of healthy food, and worked out consistently.
What was your motivation?
My motivation to drop weight came when I began taking Metformin due to being pre-diabetic. I was determined to get my health in check so that I could come off of the medication.
How did you change your eating habits?
I joined a weight loss program (Metabolic Research) that required me to weigh-in at least once a week, and I began to used their meal plan. When I started my weight loss journey, I had been a Pescatarian (only seafood) for 13 months. I decided to re-introduce poultry back into my diet. I changed my eating habits by ensuring that my meals included protein, veggies, and “good” carbs. I still do not consume red meat.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often do you work out?
My workout plan is cardio and full-body muscular endurance. I generally walk/run for at least 30 minutes for my cardio. I love full-body workouts!
I started by out working out 3-4 times a week. The pandemic has presented the chance for me to telework, which has cut a 2-hour daily commute out of my schedule. So, I’ve increased my workout to 5-6 times a week.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 212 pounds. I currently weigh 173 pounds.
What is your height?
My height is 5’4″.
When did you start your weight loss journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started the weight loss program in September 2019. As of June 2020, I’m down a total of 39 pounds.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No surgeries. I simply changed my diet and got back to working out on a regular basis.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
My biggest lesson during this journey has been to do it for me. No matter what anybody else thinks or feels, I have to remind myself that this is for me. My life, my health, my kids, and my happiness.
What advice would you like to share?
Look within yourself for happiness and celebrate the little victories. My first week on my weight loss program, I only dropped 1 pound. I was devastated but then I realized it was one pound less than I weighed the week prior. Every week, I celebrated my progress, no matter how big or small. Don’t worry, be happy.
