What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
Me! I became my biggest motivation to not quit on myself. I realized if I could see my goal before I saw it happen, it would be possible to achieve. So, I created a vision of the most healthy, happy, healed, and whole me. I became relentless in seeing and experiencing her in the physical. The weight loss was the fruit of my Self Love and Healing journey instead of the focus.
Once I began consistently losing weight and implementing healthier habits into my life, including inner work, other Queens became a part of my motivation. The support and encouragement I received reminded me that once upon a time, I was that Queen on the other side looking in. They became a part of my motivation to keep going, so they could believe the same thing is possible for them! That driving force inside me and the woman who motivated me is also in them.
How did you change your eating habits?
I created harmony with my eating schedule—Mon-Fri are my super intentional days. On the weekends, I indulge and enjoy myself. I refrain from overindulging by creating harmony on the weekend. For example, if I know I’m going out with my kids or friends, I will make sure I have a light, healthy breakfast; control what I control.
I found success in multiple avenues (Keto, Herbalife, IF) but maintained consistency through group accountability. This inspired me to create a community & tribe for women like me who struggled with consistency & personal accountability due to a detachment of Self Love. The GLLAM Life Tribe focuses on Self Love, inner work, healing, nutrition, and living out a healthy-active lifestyle through education, encouragement, and inspiration. We do regular challenges together through the “Challenge” app, promoting everyone to “move their body & being.”
What is your workout routine?
Nowadays, it’s very eclectic. I started with tons of cardio and then learned the benefits of weight and resistance training to build muscle and melt fat. Now I focus on maintaining a healthy-active lifestyle–dancing, hula hooping, yoga, swimming, Pilates, YT workouts, etc. Switching up my “workouts” helps me not be bored and allows me to maintain my focus on a healthy, active lifestyle while trying new things. I believe you never know what you like unless you try it at least once; kickboxing is up next for me!
How often did you work out?
Four times a week-active workouts. I also do active rest days on most Saturdays & Sundays, walking and/or yoga.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
Starting Weight: 237 pounds
Current Weight: 184 pounds
What is your height?
5’2″
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I consistently started my Self Love Journey in August 2019. I’m still on my journey but hit a milestone in November 2021. I entered “Onderland” and have continued to lose fat and gain muscle since then.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, it hasn’t been. Yet I do support anyone doing and being what is good for them! BE and do you is my motto.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Learning to intentionally in-joy the process–no longer obsessing about the result. Being able to Detach from the destination while embracing the journey has allowed me to fall in love with the beauty of the process.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Discover your personal why. Why do you want to begin the journey to become “her”; and then go after her relentlessly? Do not quit on yourself!
I’m a pre-teen mom, having my first child at 12, so I struggled with my weight for what seemed like most of my life. I’d quit so many times I began to think it wasn’t possible, but it was!
Lastly, but most importantly, create a relationship with God. I surrendered and leaned into my God-Dream, knowing that God wanted me to be healed, healthy, happy, and whole before I did. So, my Source became my Devine Connection to willpower, strength, and Grace for those days I didn’t want to work out and knew it was ok to honor my rest without feeling guilty.
