Today’s featured weight loss success story: DeAngela lost 76 pounds going from 215 to 139 by changing her eating habits and exercising.
Here is what she said about her weight loss journey:
“If I can do it, you can do it too!!! From 215 lbs in April 2010 to 139 lbs now. Hey, with God ALL things are possible. No pills, no surgery, just pure change of eating habits & exercise. I started with small changes transitioning from fried to “mostly” baked & grilled foods & decreasing my intake of carbs. From there, I did a strict 6-month regimen of only seafood & veggies. During that time, I not only saw the weight coming off, but as I increased my cardio & added weights, I became leaner, decreasing my body fat percentage from 33 to 19.8%. Today, I still do some high intensity interval training, Zumba + other cardio (rope jumping, arc trainer, & some walking/jogging, & weights for lean muscle building. MyFitnessPal.com is a phenomenal tool to help u keep track of such things as calories, fat, sugar, protein, & carbs. I’ve been logging my food & exercise on that tool since March 1. As they say, “steady wins the race”, but ya gotta keep pushing….pushing beyond fear of failure, pushing past comfort zones, & pushing in spite of plateaus. With God ANYTHING & ALL THINGS are possible!”
Angela says
congratulations D Angela I would like to do this 6 month seafood & veggie… but I wanted to know what did you have for breakfast?
DeAngela Perry says
Hi, Angela. Thank you so much. For breakfast, I would normally (and still do today) stick with an egg white omelet or scramble with green & red (or orange & yellow peppers…whichever u prefer), sauteed onions, & sometimes some sundried tomatoes & spinach! YUM!!! Sometimes, I will even throw a small piece of tilapia on the stovetop in a little olive oil, seasoned with Old Bay Rub and brown on both sides. Now THAT’s a low-caloric, but very filling meal!! Who says you can only eat fish for lunch or dinner? 😉
Sally Mae says
You look fabulous. I have had 2 seperate surgeries for weight loss and the first time I lost 90 lbs and gained it back over 7 years and 17 years later I had a revision and lost 35 lbs but have gained it back. I am not a big eater but I know I eat the wrong things. I am in tears as I write this because I don’t have medical problems and I don’t want to start having them. I am at 280 now and my biggest problem is exercising. Any tips you can give I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.
Tekia says
U go girl. God is good. Sometime when I don’t want to work out, I asks God for strength and he will give it to u. U look good and keep up the good work….
DeAngela Perry says
Isn’t that absolutely amazing, Tekia? He always does, in various forms (could be a song list that I play in my headphones that gets me pumped or a message that i listen to from my pastor that gets me through that 60-minute intense cardio session). I love it! Thank u!
Tracie says

You look wonderful. And, yes all things a possible if we trust in God. I am also dealing with my weight and fighting off bad sugar cravings. But, I can do all things throught Christ Jesus who strengthens me. Be blessed and do it sista.
DeAngela Perry says
Thank u Erica. Try Weight Watchers desserts in the frozen section if you MUST have something sweet. The portion sizes are perfect for what you NEED to take in at any given meal & all of their desserts include fiber, low calories, & I think some even have protein! Also, try the Luigi’s sherbert (only 90 cals per 1/2 cup) or Italian ice cups (can’t remember the caloric value, but very reasonable). You can do it!!! I know you can!!!
DeAngela Perry says
Erica, they say late is better than never….not always the case, but in this case, I hope it is. I pray that you have found your flow and are able to fight off sugar cravings. keep going…..never give up!!

Desta Christopher says
Congrats! I’m truly inspired just looking for as much motivation I can get so I can get my weight loss on track my question is during your veges and seafood challenge what did you snack on between meals?
DeAngela Perry says
Desta, I apologize for my delay in responding. For some odd reason, I made my way back to this post today. In between snacks consisted of a low-carb food anchored with a protein. i.e. wheat thin crackers or 2 Keebler graham crackers anchored with only 1 tbsp. of natural peanut butter; greek yogurt anchored with a few pecans or 1/4 cup granola. When you anchor your snacks with a protein, the feeling of “satiety” (which is the feeling of being full) lasts much longer than just taking in empty carbs.
Felicia says
Wow you just gave me what i need to here i weight 215 and you encourage me thank you. And keep up the good work…
DeAngela Perry says
Felicia, I hope you are still encouraged 8 months later!!! You know, the # 8 signifies “a new beginning” so if you have not been able to sustain, start afresh. Try Jesus! Make Him a consistent and necessary part of your total body fitness journey & I promise, it will be successful!!! Romans 12:1-2
