Transformation of the Day: Deana lost 45 pounds. She gained 50 pounds in 2001 while pregnant with her son. After giving birth, she decided to transform her body with fitness and healthy eating habits while getting a degree in Biology and a certification as a pharmacy technician. She has maintained her success for more than 20 years and has helped other women change their lives.
My name is Deana, and I gained over 50 pounds during my pregnancy in 2001. (Social media and taking pictures of your journey were impossible during that time.) I was totally unhappy with the weight I’d gained after birthing my son. It was the highest weight I had ever been, and I knew I had to start on a plan of attack.
I woke up daily at 4 am, worked out by 5 am, and got my son ready for daycare. Then I did another workout by 6 am, was in class at the university by 8 am, and then off to work as a tech in the pharmacy after classes. This was my daily routine.
At the age of 21, I lost 27 pounds with no social media help or outside accountability. I was my only cheerleader, coach, trainer, and influencer. I decided after I lost the weight to help encourage others.
I graduated in 2005 with my degree in Biology and with my certification as a pharmacy technician. I have been able to share my own experience, knowledge, and education with other women who battle with post-pregnancy weight and postpartum depression.
It’s been 19 years since my journey began, and it continues every day of my life.

How did you change your eating habits? How have your eating habits evolved as you’ve learned how to maintain your results.
I started changing my eating habits in 2002, but it has evolved over the years. I decided to become a Vegan in 2016, and it has totally changed my life. My mind is clearer, and I can maintain a healthy weight without working out so hard.
What did your workout routine consist of?
My workout routine was kickboxing, and I would do TaeBo early morning at 5 am during the week and then yoga on the weekends in 2002. Now, my workout is pretty much close to the same. I lift weights four times a week, do TaiChi twice a week, and I rest once a week.
How many days a week did you work out?
5-6 days per week.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
I started at 185 pounds, and my current weight is 140 pounds.
What is your height?
I’m 5’3″.
How many months did it take for you to lose weight?
It took me 12 months to get my metabolism back up and lose the weight.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
I learned to be patient with the process of body transformation, and that works for me may not be what works for everyone else. Everyone needs a plan that works for them.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
Start with the vision. See yourself healthy at the weight you’d like to be and then move towards your goals. The weight loss journey is just like all things in life. It takes time, dedication, consistency, and patience.
