Transformation of the Day: Davina lost 115 pounds. After the birth of her second child, she felt like she’d let herself go. Joining Weight Watchers gave her the push she needed. Eventually, she learned how to get results without cutting out any food groups and how to work out effectively in the gym.
When did you start your journey?
I just had my second child and let myself go. I realized after wearing all of my then boyfriends clothes that something had to change. I joined Weight Watchers and started there until I was comfortable enough to walk into a gym. Once I went to the gym, I learned everything I could about how to use every machine there. Eventually, I learned how to create an effective routine to shed my weight. That was ten years ago.
What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up? Knowing that I have kids who look up to me as their example is what inspired me.
How did you change your eating habits?
I started by eliminating foods that are high in sugar. I also stopped snacking every day. I restricted snacking to the weekends initially. Then, I switched to only rewarding myself with a milestone cheat meal (after a 20lb loss, for example). Eventually, I started eating vegetables first in place of carbs and learned how to manage my portions. Portion control was the key to it all.
Have you continued with Weight Watchers over the years, or did you transition to a different eating style?
I transitioned to not eliminating anything and learned portion control and calorie counting.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
I do cardio or HIIT 45 minutes a day, four days per week. I do strength splits – upper body two times a week and lower two times a week.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 315 pounds. My current weight is 210 pounds. I had a tummy tuck after I lost the weight to get rid of my sagging skin.
What is your height?
5’7″
How long did your transformation take?
I’m still not done. It’s a lifelong battle, but the initial 100lbs with Weight Watchers took 10 months. Then, I gained and lost weight over the years.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
I learned that this is a lifelong commitment. I also learned that I don’t have to eliminate an entire food group to be successful.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
Don’t rush the results. Do the work, and the results will come.
