Danita lost 53 pounds. She realized the power of changing her eating and exercise habits. It’s now, in her 50s, that she has truly come into her own, mind and body. Check out her journey.
My name is Danita and I’ve lost 53 pounds. It was a long journey and with a lot of ups and downs. I didn’t realize how heavy I was until I saw an old photograph from the dinner for my son’s wedding. I didn’t lose weight until I changed my eating and exercise habits at the same time. It took me until my 50’s to truly understand my mind and body. I stopped looking at the scale everyday and started focusing on my life overall.
What inspired you to keep doing when you wanted to give up?
I was diagnosed with hypertension and didn’t want to keep taking medication.
How did you change your eating habits?
My problem wasn’t what I was eating so much as how much I was snacking and my late night eating. I changed my eating habits by not eating after 6 pm. If I do eat later than that, I have fruit or natural trail mix instead of sweets. Now don’t get me wrong, I still have some snacks but they are treats. They don’t turn into a whole meal. I eat a lot of different salads and I drink protein shakes as meal replacement shakes. Sometimes I have mushrooms as my meat and I eat lots of veggies.
What did your workout routines look like?
I finally started really working out and doing the Insanity by Shaun T. That really started the ball rolling and I lost my first 30 pounds. Today, I workout 5 days a week.
Starting weight/Current weight
I weighed 198 pounds at my heaviest. Now I weigh 145 pounds. My height is 5’3″.
How long did your transformation take?
2 years
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
Consistency is important. Love yourself, even the flaws. Do it for a life change.
