Update 2020: Daniella lost 9 more pounds for a total of 59 pounds gone.
Starting weight: 282 pounds
Current weight: 223 pounds
Transformation of the Day: Daniella lost 50 pounds. After giving birth, she experienced debilitating chronic pain, which led to depression and weight gain. For years, her doctors had no answers. In 2017, she met a specialist who changed her life, and she was able to reclaim her health.
In 2014, after a 27-hour long labour, I suffered from severe chronic back pain. I remember telling my doctor about the pain at the time. She said it would go away when I was six months post-partum and that it was normal. Fast forward to 6 months later, and I was still in debilitating chronic pain.
- I could barely walk.
- I couldn’t sit without pain.
- I couldn’t stand without pain.
- I couldn’t lie down without pain.
Due to living with this chronic pain and not finding answers for why I was in pain, I become severely depressed. I gave up, and I let my nutrition go. I ordered pizza, Chinese Food, etc. 3 – 4 times a week because I was in so much pain that I could barely cook and take care of my newborn.
I gained a significant amount of weight and got up to 282 pounds. After years of trying to figure out the post-partum pain I was experiencing pain, I almost gave up.
In 2017, 3 years later, I was in so much pain that I honestly didn’t think I could go on. I was hospitalized for one month, and during my hospitalization, a doctor told me that There was nothing western medical science can do for me.
I felt defeated. I felt alone.
And then a little voice in my head whispered, “Give it one more try.” And so I did …
After being discharged from the hospital, I went to my doctor again and she suggested I see a pelvic floor physiotherapist. This physiotherapist changed my life. She performed traditional Chinese acupuncture and pelvic floor therapy. My pain slowly started dissipating, and I was able to work out and lose weight again.
It turns out that I suffered from some form of pelvic floor dysfunction that caused my muscles to overwork and become tight. I hope my story will help any woman who is going through post-partum back pain and looking for answers.
My nutrition routine consists of maintaining a caloric deficit and eating a high protein diet.
My workout routine consisted of doing Beachbody on Demand workouts. I work out at home 5 – 6 days a week. My workouts are mainly focused on strength training, followed by cardio.
I began my journey in July 2017, and my transformation took six months. My starting weight was 282 pounds, and I currently weigh 232 pounds at 5’8″. I’ve lost a total of 61 pounds since the start of my journey. Yes, I’ve gained weight during this journey. My lowest weight so far was 221lbs, and I’m almost back to where I was.
My advice to others when it comes to weight loss is to eat fewer calories than you consume. Weight loss is purely mathematical.
