Courtney lost 43 pounds. Aware of her family’s history of obesity and heart issues, she was determined to stop the trend. She changed her eating habits as she learned more about nutrition and portion control. Mixing her workouts up keeps her from getting tired of the same routine.
Growing up, I always remembered being overweight, even at a young age. Being one of four from a single mom, “healthy” habits were sometimes difficult to establish. In 2015, I stepped on the scale and was shocked at what I saw. I knew I was way too young to be carrying so much weight. Then and there, I decided to make a change. I received a degree in Health, Fitness and Exercise Studies, as well as Exercise Science. Now fitness is a part of my everyday life as a Certified Health Coach!
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going?
My motivation was myself and my future children. My family has a history of obesity and heart issues. All it takes is one person to stop the trend. I know what I wanted and was not going to give up until I got there.
How did you change your eating habits?
I really started to learn more about macronutrients and which foods are better than others. I would never restrict the things I love. Instead, I learned moderation and portion control.
What does your workout routine consist of?
I tend to work out 30-45 minutes a day, 4-5 times a week. Group fitness is my favorite. I mix my routine up frequently to avoid getting tired of the same routine. Kickboxing, Zumba, Strength Training, Step Aerobics, Resistance Bands… I do it all!
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
Starting weight: 215 pounds
Current Weight: 172 pounds
What is your height?
Height: 5’6″
When did you start your weight loss journey?
I started working out at the gym about ten years ago, but I wasn’t consistent. I didn’t get serious about it until 2015. It took me about three years to really learn how to continue and maintain my weight loss.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No surgery. Just increased movement and healthier eating habits, making it a lifestyle.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far? Anything is possible. I hit my first goal weight of reaching 185 lbs. Now I am working towards my second goal of 165 lbs. With consistency, patience, and support, it will happen.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
Don’t let a slip become a fall! No one is perfect. You will have those days when you want to give up. Remember why you started and the positives in the situation. There is always something to be grateful for.
