Transformation of the Day: Cora lost 35+ pounds and developed lean muscle. She found success by completing several rounds of an online challenge that gave her a structured meal plan, nutrition guidance, and a flexible workout routine.
When did you start your weight loss journey?
I started my journey in 2019 ago with the Heat Challenge. I really started taking my weight loss journey seriously, and since then, God has built my faith up to continue and never to quit on something I truly believe in… “Me” and the Heat Challenge.
I sat back and asked myself, “Are you up and accomplishing the things you have set out to do, Cora? Remember, Salvation Is Free. Know that you can be whatever your heart desires to be.” That’s when I knew I couldn’t walk away and give up.
What was your motivation?
My motivation to stay on this journey was Me vs. Me. The only way I can fail is if I quit.
How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits tremendously. I had to learn that there’s a big difference between processed sugar and natural sugar. I also learned that all carbs are not bad. There are good carbs and carbs that your body needs for energy.
The biggest things I had to let go of were potato chips and Rice Krispy treats. I had a structured meal plan that was designed and catered specifically for me. It helped me stay on track daily with my Macros;
- Protein
- Fats
- Carbs
- Fiber
With each meal, I would check off what I ate. Following the plan allowed me to know how much food I consumed and what I had left to consume.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
I work out Monday thru Saturday and rest on Sunday. Each morning, I do fasted cardio with a dumbbell workout program designed by Darrell Patterson of the Heat Challenge. That’s the program I chose, but he had other options of different workouts. (Bodyweight, Gym, Booty, and Abs)
The best part of this program is that I could take the workout plan and the meal plan anywhere. So, for example, If I went out of town and didn’t have access to weights or the gym, I could still follow the program. All I needed was my phone, my mindset, and my body.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 198 pounds. By my 3rd round of the Challenge, I had gotten down to 143 pounds the healthy way. From January to September, embracing this healthy lifestyle has helped me lose a significant amount of body fat. It was time for me to incorporate weights and build mature muscle. Now I weigh 163 pounds solid, and my body fat percentage is still down.
What is your height?
I am 5’4″.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Sometimes the worst thing that happens to you can bring out the best in you, as long as you don’t let it get the best of you.
You’ll never know if you can do it if you never start. When you don’t choose yourself, you’re making it easy to fall short and give in to temptation.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
What people don’t tell you is that your weight loss journey comes with so many emotions. (Frustration, anger, healing, patience, etc.) You are going to cry sometimes. You will get tired. You will want to throw in the towel. However, you have to push through and not give up on yourself.
The Spirit of Achievement lives within you. Nobody can block you when you have the fight of a Warrior in you. Believe in yourself if nobody believes in you. The one person who matters the most is you. There’s nothing wrong with loving yourself unconditionally. The journey comes with patience, understanding, and trusting the process.
Thank you so much for taking out the time to be encouraged by Me.
