Transformation of the Day: Christion lost 70 pounds by focusing on healthy food and self-care. At a doctor’s visit, her blood pressure was so high that they offered to admit her to the hospital. That was this mother of five’s turning point. Thinking of what could happen to her family without her gave her the motivation she needed.
Hi, my name is Christion, and I have successfully shed 70 pounds in six months. The picture on the left was taken on September 7th, 2019, on my daughter’s wedding day. For the past three years, I’ve been helping others reach their health and nutrition goals, but I realized that I needed to take a step back and take my own advice. In order words, self-care started with me.
What was your motivation? What inspires you to keep going when times are tough?
I am a single mom of five children. I’m in school full time, and I currently work two jobs. I was pushing myself every day to simply survive so I could make a living for my family.
My motivation definitely came from a quick doctor’s appointment, where I learned that my blood pressure was so high that I was required to sign a form to prevent getting admitted. The reason that I took that risk was that I had no one else to pick up my young children from school. Although I’m thankful that I didn’t suffer a massive stroke that day, the thought of what would happen to my young children without me became very real for me! Also, this incident occurred two weeks before my oldest daughter’s wedding, and I want to be around to support her through her life challenges.
My faith in God helped me start on this journey! SelfCare = SelfLove. Now, I honestly have tons of energy to keep up with my current lifestyle. If I can reach my halfway point, you can surpass your goal! I have about 70 lbs more that I’d like to lose. I feel amazing!
Tell us about how you changed your eating habits.
As far as nutrition goes, I’m a health and nutrition coach, and I know what wakes up my metabolism. I started to eat low carb, and now I’m enjoying a pescatarian lifestyle. 85% of my nutrients come from raw fruits and vegetables. I no longer eat away my emotions. Now, I choose to workout instead.
What did your workout routine consist of?
For my workouts, my children bought me a Fitbit, and I started to get obsessed with my daily step goals. I enjoy working out, so I started with boot camp, water aerobics, cycling, and walking. I work out at least five times each week.
What advice would you like to share with people who want to lose weight?
I hope that my success story will encourage someone and let them know that once you mentally decide that you are worth a healthy lifestyle, then your actions will follow.
