Transformation of the Day: Chineye lost 90 pounds. At 33 years old, she was tired of knee pain, feeling tired all the time, and not being able to find clothes that fit well. The low carb, high fat Keto style of eating truly worked for her, along with weightlifting. Check out her journey.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
At 33 years old, it hurt to walk up and down stairs. My knees hurt, and I was out of breath all the time. I had no major health complications, but I felt like I was dying inside. I also had a hard time finding clothes that fit my size, so I made excuses not to go out or be social. I wanted to start living and not just existing.
In January of this year, I made a vision board, and it hangs outside of my kitchen. I see it every day as I come down the stairs. It serves as a constant reminder of what I set out to achieve for myself. I also look at pictures. We may not feel as though we are progressing, but a photo will put things into perspective.
When I want to quit, I remember why I’m doing this. I also set small goals for myself so that I’m always working towards something. I never want to feel like I felt in my before pictures again.
How did you change your eating habits?
I follow a Ketogenic way of eating, which consists of 75% healthy fats (oils), 20% protein (meat), and 5% carbs (veggies). Instead of counting calories, I follow macros. I stopped eating, bread, pasta, sweets, sugar, soda, juice, processed foods, and pretty much anything with added sugars. I also incorporated intermittent fasting and eventually transitioned to eating one meal a day (OMAD). If I want/crave something, I find a keto-friendly alternative and that works for me. I don’t feel deprived at all.
What did your workout routine consist of?
I started out doing 30 minutes of cardio, usually on the elliptical since my knees hurt. I also did weight training for an hour, 4-6 days a week. Lift weights, Ladies. It will change your body in the best way!
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 255 in November of 2018. 270 pounds was my heaviest that year. Now, I weigh 165 pounds.
What is your height?
I’m 5 ft, 5 inches tall.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey on November 12, 2018, and was able to lose 90 lbs in 8 months.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I contemplated weight loss surgery. Keto was my last resort before taking the leap. It has helped me achieve my weight loss goals, so surgery (unless it’s skin removal) is no longer a need for me.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
I learned to be kind and love myself during every step of my journey. Success is not defined by a number on the scale. It’s important to love who you are at any size! Speak positive thoughts, and they will come to fruition.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Start today! I used to be the girl who would wait until a Monday or the 1st of the month, but time waits for no one. Also, you can not out-train a bad diet. 80% of weight loss comes from your diet. The other 20% is from physical activity. Lastly, this is YOUR journey. Don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s. Let the focus be on you.
