Transformation of the Day: Cheryl lost 85 pounds. This entrepreneur and mom of two wanted to get off of blood pressure medication, release the weight, and live a healthier life for her family. VSG surgery, along with healthier eating habits and exercise, has proven to be an excellent combination for her.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey in January 2019. I decided to go to Weight Loss Management at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Kentucky. Having VSG surgery (gastric sleeve) is what helped my journey out the most. I still have to eat a specific way and exercise to be as consistent as my weight comes off.
My transformation took a year. I AM STILL TRANSFORMING TO BECOME A HEALTHIER ME. I am not going to stop just yet until I meet my goal and get down to 190 pounds.
What was your motivation?
My motivation was my two kids. As a mom, I had to realize that I have to live a healthier life for them. I had to take my life back. My problem was that birth control made me gain so much weight over the years.
What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
A few things inspired me when I wanted to give up. My mother, who lost 100 pounds, inspired me. Just changing up my eating habits and walking made me realize that I could do it too.
Another thing that inspired me was knowing that there was a chance that I could get off all the blood pressure medicines that I was on.
How did you change your eating habits?
80% of successful weight loss is diet, so I had to change my eating habits. I limited my intake of bread, pasta, starches, and acidic drinks. Most of these items that I have named can cause a lot of bloating in women. My diet consists of high protein and low carbs.
Tell us about your workout routine.
My workout routine was super simple. Get at least 10,000 steps a day. Doing cardio on the treadmill also helps too. I work out 3-5 days a week.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
In January 2019, My starting weight was 313 pounds. My current weight is 228 pounds.
What is your height?
My height is 5’6″.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson that I have learned is that consistency is the key.
What advice do you have for people who want to lose weight?
Stay consistent. If you miss a day or two, give it your all the next day. Also, it’s good to be around people who will support you.
