Awesome Transformation: Chelsye lost 40 pounds. She wanted to love what she saw in the mirror, fit the clothes she liked and avoid health issues that run in her family line. She did it by changing her eating habits and working out regularly. Check out what she shared with us…
What was your motivation?
What motivated and inspired me to jumpstart my weight loss journey was a trip to the mall. I had to go shopping for a photoshoot. I started to feel really discouraged when I could not find anything I liked for my body or style. Everything that I did like was too small for me. I remember leaving the mall saying to myself that I am going to Academy Sports and Outdoors to buy some running shoes instead. I said to myself that I was going to run until I fit into clothes that I like. That was the kicker. Other things that motivated me were definitely my feelings towards myself. I hated what I saw in the mirror. I stopped going out with my friends, hated taking photos and cried all the time. Wanting to love myself more inspired me as well. Of course, not wanting to develop diabetes, heart disease and many other health issues that run in my family line was a motiving factor.
How did I change my eating habits?
After purchasing my shoes from Academy, I started the nutrition part of my lifestyle change a week later. The first thing I did was increase my water intake from about 64 oz (if that) to about 134 oz a day! Yes a day! I immediately cut out all sugary drinks and sodas. Cut out all sweets and junk food and stopped eating after 8 PM. After researching, I started to do a high protein and low carb eating routine. I added more turkey, chicken, fish, green veggies, fruits and nuts into my daily meals. I eat only one carb a day. I also have one cheat MEAL a week, not a whole cheat DAY, so I won’t binge. I deny, deny, deny all other bad foods. I want to give my body the best so that my body can give me what I want.
What are my workout routines like?
I workout 6 days a week. I do HIIT training and interval cardio for about an hour. Then, I do strength training. Monday and Fridays are my upper body days. Tuesday and Thursday are my lower body days. Wednesday and Saturdays are my abs, chest and back days. I basically do abs everyday, but on my ab days I do more. When I first started, I did 30 minutes of walking everyday and then gradually made my way up to the gym. I still get home workouts done, if I cannot make it. Either way, there is no excuse, gym or not.
My starting weight was 226 pounds and I am currently at 186 pounds. My goal weight is 160 pounds. I am 5’6 feet tall. My transformation so far has only been for 3 months. 35 pounds down in 3 months. I have another 30 pounds to go before I hit my goal weight and after that it’s on to the maintaining journey. I am so happy that I got this far.
The advice that I would give others: Prepare your mind. Most people think its all about working out. If you don’t train your mind and change your way of thinking, the journey will only be harder. Also, you will fail. When you do fail, learn from the failure and keep it moving. Many times when I failed in the past, I stopped everything. This time around when I failed, I picked myself up again and kept it moving. Stay consistent.
