What was your motivation?
I was tired of feeling tired. I was tired of feeling trapped in my own body. I wanted to set an example for my kids.
What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I always remember my “why,” which fueled me to keep going even when I may not have been motivated. I remembered how far I’d come, and that kept me going.
How did you change your eating habits?
I started counting my calories at first. Then started focusing on macros. I don’t drink soda unless it’s no sugar. I may drink a no-sugar soda 2-3 times a week, if that. I stopped drinking alcohol because it delayed my progress.
I became a Certified Macro Coach to understand nutrition better. Through that process, I learned the importance of fueling my body and not restricting food groups.
What was your workout routine?
I lifted weights four days a week and did some sort of cardio, like cycling or walking, 4-5 days a week.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 333 pounds, and my current weight is 195 pounds.
What is your height?
I am 5’6″.
When did you begin your weight loss journey?
My journey started in 2011, and I lost 88 pounds in 6 months (starting at 298). Fast forward to baby number five, I was diagnosed with preeclampsia, and my weight skyrocketed to 333 pounds. So I had to restart my journey again.
How long did your transformation take?
It took two years to lose weight, and I have maintained my weight loss for four years now.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, weight loss surgery is not. However, I did have skin removal surgery after I lost 130 pounds.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
First, seek out supportive people and find a coach who can write a customized plan just for you that will help you reach your goals. Also, take the time to learn about nutrition.
Evaluate your past to see what has been successful for you and what has not. Give yourself some grace! Things are not always going to be perfect, and that’s ok!
