Transformation of the Day: Celita lost 62 pounds. After a bad bout of acid reflux and some advice from her doctor, this Alpha Kappa Alpha soror decided to start her journey. She focused on fitness and found healthy alternatives to fast food. Check out her journey.
What was your motivation?
I started at 260 pounds, and that wasn’t enough to convince me to lose weight. It wasn’t until I had a bad bout of acid reflux that I decided to change. My doctor told me I wasn’t getting good blood circulation in one of my legs. On top of that, my colleague at work would tell me that I was just too pretty to be “so big.” She told me in a loving way to encourage me to lose weight.
In October 2017, I made the decision to start my journey, and I’ve haven’t looked back. My current weight is 198 pounds. My height is 5”6.5.
How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits by incorporating more green food. (In the past, I didn’t eat them unless they were on a burger or taco.) I ate less fast food and snacks, finding healthier alternatives instead. I had “cheat meals” twice a week.
Tell us about your workout routine?
I worked out 5 days a week. I’ve had a few trainers, but I felt like the results weren’t worth what I was paying. I started following people on Instagram who achieved success on their own and reached out to them. I also found workouts on Pinterest. Eventually, I had two gym memberships and a small home gym. I wanted access to exercise wherever I was so that I could eliminate excuses. I still work out 5 times a week. During my breaks (I’m a teacher), I work out twice a day.
What lessons have you learned on this journey?
I’ve come to the conclusion that I should never compare my journey to anyone else’s. Slow and steady wins the race, and it is okay to have my Taco Bell, lol.
What advice would you like to share with other people who want to lose weight?
If you’re feeling like your progress is slow, know that the body transforms from the inside out and the results will show in due time! Always stay consistent and never give up!
