Transformation of the Day: Cassandra lost 38 pounds. The food that this busy high school reading teacher was eating was making her lethargic and robbing her of energy. Wanting to feel better and feel comfortable when she walks down the aisle this July, she cut down her carb intake and worked out daily. Check out her results.
What was your motivation?
My motivation was my life! I was tired of being tired, literally. The foods that I was consuming were making me lethargic and constantly sleepy. My upcoming wedding was also my motivation. We changed the date to this year and not 2020. I wanted to walk down the aisle and feel comfortable in my wedding pictures. My future husband and my son motivated me because I want to be around for a long time with them.
How did you change your eating habits?
I’ve lost 38 pounds by cutting carbs. In the beginning, I gradually eliminated starchy carbs. Being from the south, I am used to having rice with every meal. I changed from white rice to brown rice and eventually no rice. I eliminated soda, juice, fast food, bread, and pasta. I’ve learned to make bread that is keto friendly (with almond flour).
Most importantly, I started cooking more. I love to cook! Also, I recently started a strict Keto lifestyle.
What did your workout routine consist of?
At first, I would dance to my favorite songs in my room for about 20 minutes a day until I made up in my mind to join a gym. I challenged myself to go to the gym every day for 30 days, focusing on cardio (and strength training twice a week). Now, I workout 5 days a week (3 days cardio and 2 strength).
Starting weight/Current weight
I started at 345 pounds, and I currently weigh 307 pounds. My goal is to lose 40lbs before my wedding in July.
What is your height?
5’4″
When did you start your journey?
I became more focused on December 1 (the Monday after Thanksgiving). My journey isn’t over.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to find other ways to measure success besides the scale, like how well you feel, clear skin, the way that your clothes fit and your energy levels. The scale can be discouraging.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
If your mind isn’t made up, then it won’t happen. Make up in your mind that you want to live healthier! Make small changes each week and with each meal. Slow and steady wins the race!
