Transformation of the Day: Carolyn lost 100 pounds. A lower back injury led to depression and weight gain. After receiving a wake-up call via a photo from her son, she wrote out a list of goals, prayed about what she wanted and took action. Check out her story.
Two years ago, I hurt my lower back, which prohibited me from doing the things I usually could and would do. I was depressed, so I ate and drank any and everything I wanted every single day. That is until my son sent me a picture that WOKE me up. After I saw that photo, I prayed, wrote down a list of the things I wanted, and placed that list inside my bible.
I started my journey on September 11th. The first thing I changed was my eating habits. The foods I gave up were fried foods, bread, pasta, and starches. I also gave up alcohol. I began to eat a lot of protein in my meals. After the first week of healthy eating, I lost 13 pounds. Losing those 13lbs really motivated me. After I lost 40 pounds, I became a Pescatarian, and I still am today.
I started working out on the elliptical for 30 minutes 5 days a week after my first month. Then, I started weight training with my son. In December, I went back to taking classes at the YMCA; cycling, step, Zumba, Barre, Virtual classes and yoga.
What kept me motivated was wanting to be here to see my Granddaughter grow up. Her birth gave me hope. I’m in the gym every day, no excuses! I’ve met my first GOAL, but I have more GOALS to reach! I’ve lost 100 pounds, as of today. My starting weight was 278 pounds. I currently weigh 178 pounds. I’m 5’4.
The biggest lesson I learned is that with God you can accomplish anything. I prayed to God to heal my lower back because that is the issue that caused me to add on so many pounds two years ago. I say to all women that the first step is to get your mind right.
Please do this for YOU. As you start your journey, start alone. You don’t need a workout partner. All you need is YOU. Hold yourself accountable!
