Transformation of the Day: Candace lost 41 pounds. On the outside, she seemed to be comfortable in her skin, with a take me or leave me attitude. However, on the inside she was tired, eating terribly and really wanted to lose the pounds. Her wakeup call came when 3 strong women in her life got sick. Check out how she transformed her lifestyle.
I began my journey at 228 pounds!! I was tired, my skin was breaking out, and I was eating terribly! I had just finished my Doctoral requirements, so stress eating had become the norm. My husband, who always worked out, tried to get me to start a workout regimen. I stopped and started and stopped and started again. I looked for fast weight loss tips, tricks and fads. Deep down I knew I had to lose the weight, but to everyone else, I acted like I was comfortable in my own skin and happy with my weight. “Take me or leave me.” was the attitude! I knew for many reasons that was not the best answer. Around this time, the 3 healthy, strong women in my life got sick. I had to change even more when my mom got sick with Cancer. So began my journey to make some lifestyle changes began.
The first Beachbody DVD I tried was Insanity. I hated everything about it! I was too heavy to be jumping around for what seemed like an eternity. “Shut up Shaun” I wanted to yell during my first two weeks! I gave up on the program. I was not consistent, I felt defeated. Whatever…
Enter yoga! I looked into trying yoga; a less strenuous form of exercise. Not just any yoga, but Hot Yoga! I thought maybe trying hot yoga would be even better because I could stretch and sweat at the same time! I would really be doing things then! I won’t get into all of the aspects of Hot Yoga and the wonderful people at Hot House because that is a blog for another day! After a while practicing yoga turned into more than exercise for me. It became my calm, my serenity and peace. As for me, in 2013, the love of Hot Yoga began my weight loss journey.
I changed my diet by incorporating portion control cups. I began making smoothies with my Nutribullet and added protein shakes. I also cut out bad carbs such as mashed potatoes, white yeast rolls (my favorite) and white rice.
When I was heavy, I did not work out at all. I used to work out one day per week, on and off, if at all. When I finally decided to begin to workout regularly, the program was 6 day a week program! Today, I’ve used most of the Beachbody programs. P90X is where I saw the most results. I am so loyal to that first program that I am currently back on that program right now. P90X 3 was another program that I found great success. I’ve used Bodybeast, T25 , CIZE and Max 30. I also incorporated my own HIIT workout (using medicine ball drops, kettle bell swings and battle rope). Ultimately, I enjoy the 8 week guided home workouts. I been doing hot yoga for about 4 years now.
The picture to the left was taken in 2011. I weighed 228-230 pounds. The picture to the right was taken March 2016 before starting my current exercise program, 22 Minute Hard Corp. I now weigh in at 189 pounds! My height is 5’7″.
My advice would be to stay consistent and motivated! There will be times that you may want to give up. You may not see the results, you may have hit a plateau or your cravings could get the best of you. Remember, never beat up on yourself and be patient through the process.
