Transformation of the Day: Bobbi lost 101 pounds. Unhealthy food and overeating had always been a challenge for her. 5 1/2 years ago, she decided that enough was enough. This year, she reached the milestone of 100 lbs gone. By changing her eating habits and doing a combination of cardio and strength training, she has truly transformed.
Update April 2021 – Bobbi has lost 103 pounds (IG post below).
I have always had trouble with food and overeating. After working for a pizza place for a year, I gained a massive amount of weight. I weighed 260 pounds. I remember walking up a flight of stairs and being exhausted.
About 5 1/2 years ago, I decided that enough was enough. I cut out all fast food and stopped drinking anything except water or unsweetened tea. Along with changing my diet and exercising, I began to take control of my life.
As of just a few days ago, I can finally say that I’ve lost 100 pounds. I weighed in at 158.8 pounds, and I have never been more proud of myself. Anything is possible when you are determined and when you stick to your plans to achieve your goals.
What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
There were several times during my weight loss journey when I felt like things were difficult, but that’s the thing about challenges. They are difficult. The one thing that kept me going was knowing that all of the pain from soreness was only temporary. I knew that if I kept going, eventually I wouldn’t be sore anymore. I would be better and stronger than I was the day before.
Tell us more about how you changed your eating habits.
I adopted a plant based diet and stopped eating fast food. Typically, eat a variety of beans, greens, and nuts. My favorite thing to eat are lentils (since they are packed with protein). Plus, there are so many different flavors you can make them with. I also drink plenty of water, about a gallon a day.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
My workout routine consisted of a 15-minute cardio warm-up, followed by 30-45 minutes of strength training, and ending with another 15-minutes of cardio. I followed this routine 4-5 days a week, and it worked wonders for my body.
What is your height?
I am 5’6″.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
Weight loss surgery was not a part of my journey. I changed my eating habits and did a combination of cardio and strength training to achieve my goals.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far is that you have to stay consistent, and what you put in your mouth is a bigger deal than you may think. If you deviate from your plan for a week, you can undo the progress you spent weeks or even months trying to achieve. There was a time when I had a cheat “day”, and I ruined the progress that I had made that entire week. I learned that the best thing is to allow for a cheat “meal”, but not to spend the entire day enjoying all kinds of guilty pleasures. I’ve been there and done that, but I always felt terrible afterward.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
If you want to lose weight, make sure you are doing it for you. It has to be something that you really want. You have to be ready to make some sacrifices to achieve your goals. I have a shirt that says, “Torn between wanting a snack and looking like one.” I also heard a saying that says, “Losing weight is hard, and being overweight is hard. Choose your hard.” Whether you make changes or you don’t, things are going to be difficult. The good news: When you start and it becomes a habit, it will only make you feel better and it will only get easier.
