Update Nov 2018: Blessing wrote in to share how her weight loss journey has evolved since we featured her back in 2016.
After my story was shared, I lost extra kg, but then I became pregnant again of my sixth child. All the weight piled up again. I had my baby in March 2017. In December 2017, I chose to get my beautiful, healthy body back. When I weighed myself before I started eating right in Dec 2017, I weighed 97kg/213.8 pounds
Cutting out high carb foods got me to where I am today. I exercise at home with some aerobics videos I downloaded from youtube.
I don’t know my current weight. I don’t like checking. My scale doesn’t move, but I know I have lost a lot of weight. I used to wear UK size 18, but now I wear a UK size 8/10.
The advice I have for people is this: We are a product of what we eat Control your diet and have yourself a beautiful and sexy body.
Our Nigerian sista Blessing started her journey in February 2016 and has lost 23 pounds. This proud mom of 5 noticed that she lacked energy and could barely fit some of her wardrobe. She took action and now she’s is sharing with us about how she’s changing her life.
I am Blessing, and I am from Nigeria. I want to share my success story. I started my weight loss program in February, precisely 1st February 2016. Wow! The Black Women Losing Weight page has helped me stay motivated and inspired. I thank God for this page. The stories and information you shared made me believe I too can do it.
I am a mother of five children. My last baby is one year old. I weighed 96kg (211 pounds) when I started, but presently I weigh 85kg (188 pounds). My desired weight is 65kg (143 pounds). I’m 5’7″. I know I can get there because Jesus Christ in me strengthens me to do all things.
I became inspired to losing the extra weight when I realized I would often getting tired and didn’t feel up to the task of helping my kids with homework or doing house chores. Also, I could barely fit in most of my clothes, so I often got new ones. I didn’t like going out at all. I had tried losing weight in the past by skipping meals and starving myself, but that didn’t work.
I exercise every day using the elliptical machine and the situp bench. I also workout with YouTube videos. I do my workouts for at least an hour every day. My training is ongoing because I desire to lose more weight.
I changed my diet. I eat lots of protein now (mostly fish) and a little carbohydrate. I choose fruits (watermelon) for breakfast, while I eat little rice or yam with fish and egg for lunch. At dinnertime, I eat an apple or I repeat the watermelon. I also eat cracker biscuits (they don’t contain sugar) and drink lots of water. I flavor my water with lime and lemon.
My advice for those who want to lose the weight is to stay motivated by checking out stories from others and also setting their minds on being a success in this area of life. It feels so good to be fit and to be able to wear what one likes, instead of putting up with just anything because you have no choice.
