Our November 2012 Weight Loss Challenge will be the “Exercise 5 days per week | Avoid sweets, candy, soda, or white flour Challenge”!!! We will also be juicing as a bonus challenge for those who are interested.
We will begin on Nov 1. What do you need to do to join the challenge?
- Exercise 5 days per week for a minimum of 30 min per day. Of course you can do more, but this is the baseline minimum.
- Reduce your sugar intake – We will focus on processed sugar (white sugar, corn syrup, artificial sugar, etc). No soda, no diet soda, no sweets, no candy, no cake. You can have natural sweeteners like agave nectar and honey in reasonable quantities. You can also have fruit and sweet veggies like carrots.
- No white flour – Our goal will be to avoid as much white, bleached flour as possible. You’ll want to avoid most breads, baked goods, crackers, etc.
2. You will commit to check-in with your fellow BWLW sisters on our online community each Saturday in November to let us know how the challenge is going for you. You will let everyone know your workout totals in terms of days and hours worked out. You will also note what challenges and successes you’ve had while trying to avoid sugar and white flour. Of course, you’ll also note how your weight is affected by the challenge goals. Check-in with a status message, photo, blog post…it’s your choice. We just want to hold each other accountable. BWLW members will also be posting on our Facebook page.
Bonus Challenge – Juicing at least once per day!
Do you want to step up the complexity of this month’s challenge? Interested in adding juicing to your daily eating goals? Me too. I’ve decided to add at least one 20 oz glass of juice to eating regime each day. There are a lot of free recipe resources online that you can check out. I’ll be using a great collection of 101 recipes I found: “101 Juice Fast Recipes“. I bought it after I saw the juice fasting documentary “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead“. Just $1.01! for 101 recipes from African American Juicing Diva, Carla of Raw Raw Life. Check it out!

This is a great challenge and I plan on doing this. Hey if I can do it for 30 days then it should be easy to stick to it later. My goal is to at least exercise 3 days, i will work up to 5. I hate exercise. so I will walk for my exercise, power walking. The no sodas will not be that hard. I have gone without sodas for for longer than 30 days. Sugary drinks will be a challenge. I love sweet tea, flavored tea is a weakness. No whites. well I’m not a big bread lover, but i do love crackers especially with my soups. So I will cut out the crackers and other whites. I’m new to the website and I’ve decided to join Novembers Challenge. I have to alter it a bit to fit my past weight loss mistakes. I will definitely decrease my sugar intake by significant amounts, however I can’t eliminate it all. I will change what I choose to snack on. Failed in the past with completely knocking out things and when re-introduced in a small amount to my diet I went crazy and way off track. No sodas and only whole grains. I am also going to increase my gym activity to 5 times a week and try juicing once I figure out what machine I’m using…lol.

The excercise is not going to be the problem. I had already made a committment to cut out the sweets, but adding the white flour to it will be an added bonus! I dont have a juicer, but I will incorporate some blends in there. My goal is a 10 lb loss by the month’s end and keeping it off!

I posted earlier but I am the type that research everything that I make a commitment to I was looking for a way to help me to stick to this challenge and make it easy for my family to do with me as well. This is my first challenge since joining the community so I want to make it a great month. My goal is to lose at least 10lbs this month. I researched about unprocessed sweetners to help me with my cup of morning joe. It is a must have with two babies at home. I realize many of the sweetners even honey and agave nectar when bought from the grocery store are processed. However, I did find on natural alternative and can be found at Food Lion for those of you like me that live in the south in a small town with no Whole Foods. It is called Sweet Leaf Sweetner, check it out at http://www.sweetleaf.com. I also checked out foods to avoid when excluding white products. I have an idea but it is good to have a list of do’s and dont’s, http://www.livestrong.com have an excellent list. I would avoid splenda as an artificial sweetener, but ultimately you have to make goals that you can actually achieve. That may mean you do splenda instead of regular sugar. Each person is different. You can have bread made with whole wheat, unbleached flour. Same with english muffins if you can find them.

Yep, but if you decide that you want to use it then that’s fine. You have to chose goals that you will actually commit to. It’s better than processed traditional sugar as you ween yourself off. Later you can remove artificial sugar too.

Hi Ladies I did lose 40 pounds a few years ago for my wedding but quickly gained it back after a breast cancer diagnosis. I went through chemo & radiation but stopped walking 45 min on the treadmill, stopped working where I walked 4 flights of stairs several times a day…and stopped eating correctly. I have gained the 40 pounds back . I also have thyroid and primary bilariay chirrosis of the liver & the meds I take as not friendly when you are trying to maintain a healthy weight but this will not stop me from achieving my goal !!!!

for anyone have trouble with the sweets, trident sugar free gum, watermelon is a life saver, but they also have different kinds. Also, for the potatoe lovers, whipped cauliflower is a good substitute, with some light butter, also sweet potatoes and honey are a real treat. I turn 40 this month and feel that it is time for me to get healthy. I always start a weight loss goal but I get discouraged and don’t stick to it. I refuse too continue the cycle of quitting. I commit to the challenge and would like to lose a minimum of 10 lbs this month and 50 lbs total.

My overall goal is to drop 35 pounds. I look forward to losing 10-12 pounds within this challenge. I have been working out 4days a week with no progress. So I’m hoping that this challenge will help me to be more committed to healthy eating and getting adiquite amounts of water in to help flush the toxic off. The most challenging part of this for me will be “making” the time to eat cause we all no as a stylist; we never make time for yourselves. Sweets is also a weakness when I don’t have the right foods on hand. Enough with all of those “pass” excuses, count me in…READY!!

Hi guys! I’m IN, with one exception: I will have my ‘sweetened’ oatmeal for breakfasts, with brown sugar, dried cranberries and glazed walnuts or pecans. (I’ll limit the berries and nuts to 1 tablespoon…) Still, looking forward to the other components of the challenge: No other sugars, white flour, and the daily exercise; will be doing Leslie Sansone’s ‘Walk Away the Pounds’ and at least 5 – 10 minutes of the tension cord exercises constituting the Pilates & Ab System. Although I didn’t see it as part of the ‘challenge’, I saw on the website that 8 hours of sleep and 8 glasses of water are requirements. The last two will likely be the hardest parts for me; I tend to be a ‘night owl’, and so have to force myself to get the necessary amount of sleep. Note the time of this comment!! Anyway – have a great one!! and pray for me!!

I am totally in. I have been doing this pretty much for the past few months but now knowing that I’m not going it alone makes a world of difference.
My husband was recently diagnosed with diabetes so I have totally renounced processed sugar & flour and have started serving healthy carbs to him. Because he used to be the “excuse saboteur” of my healthy eating, now I have no excuses! We have both dropped weight and inches; his due to walking & diet change and mine due to a daily ex resize routine and excuse free diet changes.
My goal is to lose my last 19 lbs, continue to tone my body and strengthen my core.

My GOALS: This month, I WILL
~ Exercise 5x per week for at least 45 minutes/day
~ Reduce my sugar intake by eliminating processed sugars. (I will continue to use some artificial sweeteners (e.g., Stevia) in my tea.)
~ Reduce my white flour intake by avoiding baked goods, crackers, and other starchy items.
~ Lose 15 lbs.
My biggest challenge will be to refrain from overeating and not indulge in baked goods. I have a binge eating disorder, so sometimes I eat large amounts of food to deal with emotions and/or when I’m not hungry. Lately I have been gaining weight because I started bingeing again after not bingeing for a while, and I think this group and the challenge will be great support to help me get back on track!

I’m new to the group and I’m glad I found this group. I will be starting the November challenge on Saturday November 3rd. I will exercise 5x wk and cut out junk food and pop and eat healthier and take my lunch to work. I’m not sure about doing the juice thing once a day since I don’t eat a lot of the fruit, I only eat pineapples, pomergrante, blueberries & blackberries. (allergy)

I hope you don’t mind me saying, but even with the few fruits you do and can eat you can juice. You can use Kale, Spinach or Swiss Chard as a base with your favorite fruits mixed or by themselves. The 101 juicing recipe book is amazing. Maybe even YouTube juicing recipes or Google the Nutribullet (recipes). Hope this helps a little.

I’m new to the group and I can’t wait to get started! I have been struggling with my weight for what seems like my entire adult life. The switch in my mind has finally turned on and I have realized that I must protect my health and that it is my responsiblity to respect and take care of the temple that God has blessed me with.
My goals for this month are:
1. Learn about juicing and incorporate it into my life for 1 meal a day at least 3 days a week
