My name is Beverly. I wanted to share my weight loss journey with you all. I am nowhere near done, but I am getting started. I am officially down 50lbs through holistic health, juicing, yoga, meditation, and pure exercise… and I am still going. Through my testimony, I started a health and wellness juice business and continue to use my story to help inspire other black women to take control of their health.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
My motivation is honestly myself. At first, it was other people’s support. However, once I realized I was the determining factor in my weight loss success and my overall health, it pushed me to motivate myself in a new healthier way. It also pushed me mentally to stay consistent for myself because, at the end of the day, no one else is in my body but me.

How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits drastically. I began juicing fresh fruits and vegetables consistently. I also started intermittent fasting. I eat once a day around noon and drink water and fresh fruit juice for the rest of the day. I do not eat after 7 pm.
I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, so it forced me to give up processed foods (cheese, milk, soda, processed juices, and snacks). I also limited my carb and meat intake. I do not buy meat, but I’ll eat it once or twice a week. I call myself a serial shopper. I read the back of the labels of everything I buy. I am very intentional when I grocery shop. I only shop in the fresh produce sections, and I try to avoid the frozen microwavable foods & processed foods sections.
What did your workout routine consist of?
When I first began my workout journey, I was inconsistently working out. Then I created a routine/schedule for myself that now consists of walking and lightly jogging 2-3 miles a day, along with a mix of strength training, stretching, meditation, and hot yoga!
How many days a week did you work out?
I now work out five times a week.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
SW: 398 pounds (pic on left).
CW: 340 pounds
Total: 58 pounds
What is your height?
5’6″
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my health journey in 2018. Soon after, I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in April 2019. That’s when I began to take my weight loss journey and healthy lifestyle seriously.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I did not have any weight loss surgery. I was very intentional in making sure I did this journey the all-natural way. I want people to find hope in regaining their health by doing the hard work without spending thousands of dollars on surgery.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far is to trust the process and to begin your journey for yourself. We often want quick results and fast weight loss, but we have to remember it took time to build that body, so it will also take time to rebuild the body.
Lastly, make this journey for yourself because this body is your first home and the only home you have while alive on this Earth. Take care of your body as you would take care of your home!
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
Just start, and if you have to start over 10-20x, SO WHAT! There’s no set expiration date on when you can start and stop as long as you stay consistent. Remember, ladies; this is a lifestyle change. Go at your own pace and learn your body.
Everybody can’t do the same diet, workout regimes, and meal plans, so do what works for your health and body. Do not compare your journey to anyone else! Stop scrolling on social media, and just start!
