Transformation of the Day: Beneshea lost 123 pounds. Her weight gain started during childhood due to steroid shots and over the year the weight piled on. At 308 lbs, facing high blood pressure and reflecting on the loss of a close family friend, she knew that it was time to get her health in order. Now she is a boutique gym owner and with a true love for fitness.
Last July, I decided to make a lifestyle change. In March of 2015, my right ear started ringing and wouldn’t stop. For months, I tried to ignore the noise but I couldn’t take it anymore longer. At the end of June 2015, I finally decided to go to the doctor. I was told that if I didn’t do something about my weight, my health would be at risk. I was getting ready to be put on high blood pressure medication, but refused. Stepping on the scale weighing in at 308 pounds I was blown away.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve been overweight since the age of 3 years old. I was diagnosed with tuberculosis at 3 and had to take steroid shots. After taking the shots my mom said the weight piled on. So, I’ve been heavy for years but I use to tell myself that as long as I was in the two hundreds I was okay. Funny how years pass and things happen.
On July 4th , 2015, my husband lost a close friend and it really hit home. Life is short and it’s all about what you make of it. That day I decided that I have the strength to commit to this. I gave up sodas and sweets my first 30 days. I can’t lie, I even tried a few supplements. However, once I realized what clean eating really meant I was able to rely solely on myself and God. I changed my eating habits by going cold turkey: no soda, sweets, fried food and no bread.
On July 23rd, a friend of mine introduced me to a P90X class. As soon as I walked in the door I immediately wanted to leave. I even asked if I could just watch, but I eventually joined in and I’ve never looked back. I have truly found a passion in fitness and I’ve made it apart of every day life. I worked out 6 days a week (sometimes 7 just depends on how I felt). I do a variety of workouts from Piyo, boot camp, strength training, P90X and more.
Today, I stand before you weighing 185 pounds, down from 308 pounds. My 1 year Fhit Anniversary was July 23rd, 2016. I’m proud of where I am, but I know that God is not finished with me yet. I have a burning passion for fitness and want to share my journey with everyone. I fell in love with all things high intensity! In January of 2016, I started a fitness group for my friends and family called Getting Fit 4 Life. Then on June 13th, I opened my own fitness studio, 1040 Fhitness in Lawton, Ok.
I hope that my story will inspire someone else to get up and get active. Your current situation does not have to be your permanent situation. I’m giving high praise to God for providing strength and motivation.
