Transformation of the Day: Beatrice lost 170 pounds. Our sister from Montreal had been denied access to amusement park rides and arena seats due to her weight. She was also suffering from chronic hip pain and walking with a cane at 28 years old. Check out how she took action.
What was your motivation?
My health was my motivation. At 28 years old, I was walking with a cane because of greater trochanteric pain syndrome, which causes chronic hip pain. During that same year, I was kicked off of a ride at Six Flags due to my size, and couldn’t enjoy hockey tickets to the Playoffs because I was too big for the arena seats. They escorted me to the handicapped section of the arena. That was the last straw. I felt humiliated by my weight for the last time.
Had Gastric Sleeve weight loss surgery in 2011. I also had Gastric Bypass in 2016, as I had regained weight because of my lack of vigilance. I had reconstructive surgery for my arms, my breasts (lift only), my thighs and my belly. Although I work to maintain my weight it will always be an ongoing battle to keep the weight off. I stay alert with the knowledge that weight loss surgery was a tool, not a magic recipe. It is not the easy way out. It’s the hardest on the mindset. I think about the fact that I forever changed my digestive system to put my health first.
What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
I saw the bigger picture and that I needed to focus on my health, not the food. Being from a Haitian background, food was everything to me. The rice and beans, the fried pork…! I mean we LOVE good food! Food had always been something that made me happy. The more the better. and it was all about presentation. (I’m still a Foodie at heart today.)
How did you change your eating habits?
I cut out sodas and stopped eating after 8 pm. I just couldn’t eat the same quantities anymore, so I cut out junk food altogether.
What did your workout routines look like?
3 times a week, I would go to the gym and do 45 minutes cardio and 15 minutes of weight lifting.
Starting weight/Current weight
My starting weight was 435 pounds. My current weight is 265 pounds. I’m 6 feet and 1 inch tall.
What advice do you have for other people who want to lose weight?
Focus on your HEALTH. Not just your kids, not your significant other… but your health! This is the body that Jehovah God has given you. He only gave you one. Love Him enough to take care of this body you inherited from Him.
