Transformation of the Day: Avery lost 111 pounds. After being overweight since childhood, she got a wakeup call at a her new job which turned out to be a weight loss focused environment. At over 300 pounds, this petite lady started to make simple, straight forward changes to her lifestyle. She shared with us about the steps she took that have now paid off.
I never knew that I was overweight until I started a new job and everyone there was focused on losing weight. As a black woman, I was told that I was “big boned”, “thick” etc. I have been overweight since elementary school. Growing up, I never heard anyone in my family mention losing weight and we all were overweight. The meals prepared in my home as a child were high in calories and fat, but as a child I had no clue. When you know better, you do better!
I truly started my weight loss journey in January of 2010 at 305 pounds (height: 5’2″). Trust me when I say, I lost many battles, but I was determined to win the war! I started counting calories, educating myself on good carbs and excerising. I give myself 1200 calories a day! This helps me make healthier choices. I had to cut out bread and potatoes!
I also started walking at work on breaks and lunches, as well as parking far from the front doors of businesses I visiting. I just started making small adjustments. Now, I workout 4 times a week with an amazing group of people! Total body workout!
The pounds just started falling off and people were asking me if I was losing weight. I was amazed how I looked in my clothes and I became addicted to being a healthier me! I signed up for boot camp and started working out more intensely. I also bought a gym membership because I knew my hours at work were changing. I’ve learned to make changes to my lifestyle help my health, instead of making excuses! I am very proud to report that I weigh 194 pounds today and I’m still moving forward on this journey one day at a time!
My advice for others: Take it one day at a time! Make small changes and always believe in yourself! Everyone’s journey will be different! If you mess up that’s ok just start over with your next meal!

Hi my name is Karen. First of all congratulations on your weight loss and being consistent. I am mother of three. Like you I have always battle with my weight. For myself I know I need to lose the weight. Each year I say I am going to lose weight and I stop. My problem is I am not consistent for myself. I have always made my family my priority. After my second child I got a prescription to help lose weight. This time I have hired a personal trainer to help me with my workout. (Have not stArted yet with the trainer) Now my children are older. I want do something for myself and say it’s for me. My question is during your weight loss did you take any diet supplements? I would like to for a boost. My husband is saying no. Give me your suggestion.
