Transformation of the Day: Ashton lost 37 pounds. She found her motivation after going on a walk with some friends. Not being able to keep pace with her friends was embarrassing, and she knew that her weight was a factor. This busy mom achieved great results by reducing her portion sizes and making healthier food choices.
What was your motivation?
A friend of mine started her working out, so my other friends wanted to join in. They asked me to come along, so I went. We walked along a trail that was at least 5 miles total. (That was long to me). We all started walking together, but I felt tired and started slowing down to the point where I wanted to stop. However, I kept going as hard as it was. I was embarrassed because I was the one who was behind.
My best friend slowed down several times so that I could catch up to her. After a while, I told her to go ahead and join everybody else. I told her that I would eventually catch up. Having that feeling and knowledge of being the slowest one because I was the fattest one was more than enough motivation for me to want to do things on my own.
What inspired you when you wanted to give up?
My inspiration was just getting in the mindset that I want to lose weight. Claiming my weight loss and telling myself, “This time, “DON’T QUIT!” I haven’t, and the results show.
How did you change your eating habits?
As far as my eating habits, I eat smaller portions or whatever I want and drink plenty of water. With that being said, if I try to eat something big, I can’t finish it all.
What foods did you stop or start eating?
I stopped eating fried foods. I fried fish one night for my kids and didn’t touch any of it. No, it wasn’t hard for me to resist. Watching it fry in that grease was enough for me not to want any of it. The same thing happened when I fried chicken. I have started eating more vegetables and grains. I have always loved salads, so that a bonus!
Tell us about your workout routine.
Starting in April 2020, I walked five laps a day, five days a week, drank plenty of water. Once I started working and took my kids to practice in the mornings, I reduced my laps to 3 because I had to pick my kids up, but I still wanted to work out. Once I started working again, I walked less and less until I stopped for a while. Instead, I focused more on watching portion sizes, and it worked. I started seeing results! My clothes are baggy on me, and I will have to buy a wardrobe.

The biggest lesson I have learned is that I get better progress when I do it my way.
