Transformation of the Day: Annette lost 85 pounds. When her doctor said that being able to breathe deeper could improve the medical issue she was facing, she decided to lose weight with clean eating and exercise. She recently celebrated her 2-year fitversary and she is loving her new lifestyle. Check out her journey.
My turning point occurred during a visit to my doctor. After being checked in, the scale revealed my heaviest weight of 278 pounds. It was mind-blowing. I was also diagnosed with Spasmodic dysphonia during this visit. I was told that if I were able t0 inhale and exhale bigger breaths and more fully expand my lungs, I would be able to speak more clearly. I knew I would have to lose weight to help myself.
I joined Planet Fitness, and I started walking 5 days a week. After several months, I advanced my workouts by adding cardio. The pounds started dropping slowly. After about 3 months, I started eating clean, and the weight started peeling off. After months of cardio, I started strength training. Now, I exercise 5-6 days a week.
After one year, I’d lost 75 pounds naturally. October 24th, 2018 marked my 2-year Fitversary. I have lost an additional 10 pounds for a total of 85 pounds gone and 15 pounds to go. My current weight is 193 pounds, and I am 5 feet 4 inches tall. As I continue my journey, I stay focused on my goal.
Eating Habits: I changed my eating habits gradually. Fried foods became baked foods. My portion sizes became smaller. I decreased the amount of time I spent eating out. Vegetables outweighed meat. Bread was a thing of the past. I only rewarded myself after I shed 2 or 3 pounds, and that reward was dark chocolate. Often, I would eat clean for 21 days straight. As a result, I would lose 10 or more pounds. I also increased my water intake to almost a gallon a day. My favorite healthy foods are any fruit and nuts, like pecans, peanuts, and Brazil nuts.
The biggest lesson I learned is PATIENCE, PATIENCE, and more PATIENCE. Also, you are what you eat and most of all how much you eat. What you put into losing weight is what you get out of it. I didn’t get to this point overnight. I can’t get the weight off overnight. Discipline and consistency is a big piece of the puzzle.
To all the sisters out there, I say that we must first figure out our inner peace… our worth. I spent more time doing for others and didn’t realize that I had lost myself. Now, I balance my life better. God first, myself, and then I can help others.
I thank Black Women Losing Weight for inspiring me. I hope that during my journey I have inspired someone as well.
