Update November 2020: Angelia lost 100 pounds and worked to keep the weight off despite the challenges she faced. Check out her update.
Pink Jacket – 350 pounds 2015
Blue Top – 260 pounds 2018
Gold Shirt – 250 pounds 2020
I was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure in 2015. At the time, I weighed 350 pounds. I was already a diabetic with high blood pressure, Fibromyalgia, and Lupus. I changed my lifestyle to plant-based eating (no red meat).
In 2018, my total weight loss was 95 pounds. Then, my mother passed away in May 2019, and I regained 40 pounds. I regrouped and got back on track in Oct 2019. Now, one year later, I’ve lost the 40 lbs I gained weight plus ten additional pounds. I now weigh 250 lbs. The goal is to maintain for Nov-Dec 2020 and start a new 50lb weight loss journey in 2021 (my 60th birthday is in March). My goal is to weigh 200 pounds or less by the end of 2021.
March 2018: Transformation of the Day: Angelia lost 90 pounds. She didn’t let Congestive Heart Failure, Sleep Apnea, or Type 2 Diabetes stop her. With faith and the support of her loved ones, she created a healthy new lifestyle. Check out her story.
My name is Angelia Tibbs. I am living with Congestive Heart Failure and Type 2 Diabetes. My weight loss journey started in April 2015. My before photo is from February 2015. At the time I weighed 350 pounds at 5’5″. This was also two months before I was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure.
My after photo is from February 2018 and it shows me after losing 90lbs – weighing in at 260 pounds. My blood pressure and diabetes are now under control and I no longer have sleep apnea! I’m still working towards my goal of weighing 200 pounds or less. Most of all, my goal is to be stressless!
What kept you inspired even during the tough times?
My inspiration to keep going during this journey was my Faith in God and the support I received from my husband, family and friends.
How did you change your eating habits?
My eating routine consists of no red meat and no pork, but I do eat some seafood (no fish). No soda, sugar or salt for me. I eat lots of fruit, vegetables, fiber rich foods, natural spices and apple cider vinegar. I also have Lupus and Fibromyalgia, but no flares since I changed my eating habits.
What does your exercise routine look like?
My exercise routine is mainly walking and yoga. I do yoga/ stretching 5-7 times a week and walking 2-4 times a week.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
I have learned that we have to participate in this journey called life. We have to use our mind and body actively.
What advice would you give to other women who want to lose weight?
My advice is to educate yourself and find out what works for you individually. Women have different bodies and your lifestyle should fit your personal needs so that you can have a healthy and happy life.
