Transformation of the Day: Amber lost 139 pounds with healthy eating habits and exercise. A desire to keep up with her young son was her motivation. She cut carbs, cut down on sugar and worked out at the local YMCA. Check out her journey.
What was your motivation?
My son is my motivation. One day I took him to the park. He was running around having fun, and I realized that I could not keep up with him. I knew I had to do something to better myself for him and my family.
What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
Seeing the numbers on the scale move down kept me inspired. Being able to buy new clothes outside of the plus size department also motivates me to keep going.
How did you change your eating habits?
My change was drastic. I cut out all carbs and sugars besides what is in slim fast shakes and fruit. It was tough but I kept at it. I began to eat mostly fruit, veggies, and protein. By sticking to my diet and walking, I lost 30 pounds my first month.
What did your workout routine consist of?
The first month, I walked for about 30 minutes a day on my lunch break. I began to enjoy exercising so much that I got a membership at the YMCA. I take classes there, and every other day I would do cardio for 30 minutes and weight lifting for 30 minutes. After 10 months, I am now able to run at a 4.8 speed for up to 10 minutes.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
Starting weight: 344 pounds
Current weight: 205 pounds
Height? 5’5″
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey in June 2018. I have been on my journey for 10 months.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I did not have weight loss surgery.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
No matter what, never give up. I learned to love myself and the skin I am in. I never let anyone put me down because of how I look. I learned that I am beautiful inside and out. At the end of the day, no one can change me but me.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Keep going and never stop. Even when it’s hard, just know that tomorrow is a new day.
