Transformation of the Day: Ama lost 71 pounds. She is a 2nd year medical student studying in Russia. Cutting out junk food and doing dance workouts from Youtube worked for her. She gives God the glory for helping her develop the discipline she needed to change her habits from unhealthy to healthy.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I’m a 2nd year medical student in Russia, and I’m 19 years old. My inspiration was to be healthy and comfortable in my lab coat and winter jacket because I couldn’t close them. I also have many other nice clothes I wanted to wear but couldn’t because of my weight.
Throughout this journey, from April 2020-April 2021, I’ve been motivated by the holy spirit. He gave me great, immeasurable discipline to stop my unhealthy habits and to develop healthy ones. Honestly and frankly speaking, I never felt like giving up. Each and every day, God renewed and strengthened me. It was miraculous
Aside I was motivated by your page, Black Women Losing Weight, and @Sydneylbell and @Fattogodess on Instagram.
How did you change your eating habits?
On April 22, 2020, I realized my thighs were getting bigger. I was lying down but couldn’t see my feet. That evening, I made a decision guided by the Holy Spirit to stop eating all forms of junk food, high carb food (white rice, etc.), and any form of soda.
What is your workout routine? How often do you work out?
I stayed active with dance workouts on YouTube (from channels like The Fitness Marshall) because my inspiration, Sydney Bell, lost weight with dance workouts and cheerleading dances. I work out three times a week, 25 minutes per workout. I also do planks and crunches.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
In 2020, I weighed 250 pounds. Currently, I weigh 179 pounds.
How tall are you?
I’m 1.67 meters tall – 5’5″.
How long did your transformation take?
It’s been about a year.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, but I would like to have skin removal surgery because I have excess skin on my arms.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
You can achieve anything you put your mind to, but your strength should come from God because he gives immeasurable discipline to conquer it all.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
Dear women, First of all, you’re beautifully and wonderfully made by God. Yes, you can! The journey is hard but worth it. Eating healthy can cost you money, but eating unhealthy can cost you your life.
I’m currently working on a project called “Break it with Am”a on my Instagram: @AmaDufieOpare__worldicon. I’m helping people struggling to shed pounds and surprisingly some have already seen change.
