Transformation of the Day: Aloma lost 67 pounds. She was in nursing school and going through a divorce when she realized that she wanted to get healthy and get back to being herself again. A plant-based diet, exercise, and intermittent fasting worked for her.
I’ve been on a fitness journey for about two years now. This last year has been my toughest! Mentally and emotionally, everything just finally hit home. I am so BLESSED to be able to say GOD has carried me through!
What was your motivation?
I was in nursing school and going through a divorce. I wanted to get back to myself. I also needed to be able to keep up with my four beautiful children.
When did you start your journey?
In January/February 2018, I knew I had to do something about the extra weight. I can say that consistency is definitely the key.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, I did not have weight loss surgery.
How did you change your eating habits? What did your workout routine consist of?
I used the intermittent fasting method to control my diet. I also cut back on carbs and stayed at/or under 1200 calories a day. The MyFitnessPal app helped me meet my daily calorie goal. Eventually, I went vegetarian. I am vegetarian for the most part, but I do occasionally eat seafood.
When I first started, all I did was walk! I walked for one hour per day, EVERY day. Five months after I started, I increased my workouts. I joined a gym and worked out five days a week for at least 1-2 hours a day. I also added strength training, which allowed me to tone and get the shape I wanted.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 250 pounds. I got down to 172 pounds during this journey. My current weight is 183 pounds. It took me one year to get to my current weight. I’m not finished with my journey yet. I am back on the grind to hit my goals once more.
What is your height?
My height is 5’5″.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that this is a journey and a lifestyle change. You have to change your habits, or you’ll end up in the same place again.
What advice would you like to share?
Start TODAY! Take it one day at a time. You can do it. All you have to do is start. You got this!
I thought I’d share my story just in case someone is struggling today. No goal is too big or small. Let today be your day one.
