Transformation of the Day: Alishea lost 110 pounds. This mom of four struggled with her weight for many years. A doctor’s office wake up call allowed her to see just how much her weight was affecting her health, and her ability to keep up with her children. She changed her eating habits, exercised and eventually became a vegan. Check out her story.
I’ve been overweight my entire life. I’ve tried every diet known to man. I’ve even restricted calories at a dangerous level and over-exercised for a period of time, which resulted in me losing about 80 pounds. However, I didn’t properly educate myself about nutrition so I gained all that weight back plus more.
In August 2017, I went to the doctor and found out I weighed 265 pounds. I was also on the cusp of having high blood pressure! That was a shock to me because in December 2016 I gave birth to my son and weighed 235 pounds at that time. I knew I had a problem because my knees hurt and I was having a hard time keeping up with my 4 children.
After having a pity party I woke up one morning and decided that change was possible. I took the time to do my own research about nutrition. Over time, I changed my eating habits and started exercising more.
I changed my eating habits by cutting out all processed food. No processed snack/ junk food. No processed meat, soda, juice, white flour or sugar. I started eating more fruits, more vegetables, and less empty carbohydrates.
My workout routine during my journey consisted of 1 hour of cardio 3 days a week. At the beginning that meant a brisk walk and as time went on I started doing home workouts.
After 9 months of dedicating myself to a new healthy lifestyle, I lost 110 pounds and became vegan! I now workout 5 days a week sometimes twice in one day! I have the energy that I once longed for and my confidence has returned. I never fully understood how much my excess weight weighed me down until it was all gone! My current weight is 155 pounds and I’m 5’6″
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is it’s not about the number on the scale. There have been many small victories on this journey that meant more then what the scale said.
My advice to other women that want to lose weight is that the first and most important first step is to commit! Commit to a healthy lifestyle and be relentless in that commitment. Some days are hard and other days are easy, but hold onto the dream and never let self-doubt hold you back!
