Weight Loss Journey: Alisha lost 54 pounds. A diagnosis of diabetes was the exactly the wake up call that she needed to begin changing her lifestyle. Since childhood, she struggled with her weight and now she’s embraced eating and exercise habits that have improved her health and wellbeing. She’s just getting started. Check out her story.
My name is Alisha and I’ve always struggled with my weight, even as a young girl. I’ve always been thick! When I got older, I started taking diet pills and doing all types of crazy things to my body, like not eating and using body wraps (and things of that nature). Now, I’m not saying that they are not good products, they just are not good for me. Using those things actually made me feel worse. I even thought about having surgery and did research on all types of surgeries.
Last year, around this time, I found out that I had diabetes. That scared me and motivated me, all at the same time. It was a huge wake up call. I changed my eating habits and was in the gym all the time! I went back to the doctor for my yearly physical in January 2016 and found out that I am no longer diabetic. I’ve lost over 50 pounds and I’ve come a long way. I’m not done yet!
I would have to say the thing that inspired me most was waking up, looking in the mirror, seeing a new me and feeling better and about myself. It is also motivating to hear people say, “OMG, you look great.” or “Are you losing weight?”. I was like “Really?”, because I dont see it.
I stopped eating fried foods. Then, I stopped eating pork, cut out red meat and started drinking more water. I was a junk food junkie and that was the hardest part of this journey for me. Instead of the junk, I started eating healthier snacks. I actually went vegan for a while.
My workout routines have changed along the way. When I first started, I would go 5 days a week. Now, I have set schedule. I do Cranked Up Cardio on Mondays and Zumba on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I rest on Wednesdays and go to Planet Fitness on Fridays.
My atarting weight was 275 pounds and now I’m proud to say that I weigh 221 pounds. I am 5’7″ tall. This transformation took about 6-8 months to happen and I’m still not done yet.
