Alise lost 34 pounds. Her high blood pressure, cholesterol, and skin issues all improved as she changed her eating habits and committed to working out at home. This Delta Sigma Theta soror found a coach who gave her the nutrition and fitness guidance she needed.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I wanted to be healthier! I have high blood pressure, and I was having skin issues. My cholesterol was borderline, and my back was giving me some serious trouble.
I saw results as soon as I started with Terry Starks, and that’s what kept me going. My blood pressure, cholesterol, and skin issues were under control in 35 days. My PCP, dermatologist, and spine specialist were so encouraging and amazed at how quickly I was losing weight to managing my conditions.
How did you change your eating habits?
Terry Starks is my nutritionist, and he makes it so easy! He created a food plan for me, and I eat exactly what he tells me to. My meal plan is focused on eating the right portions and eating fruits and/or veggies at each meal with no salt!
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
I work out for at least one hour a day but aim for an hour and a half. I vary my workouts between walking, running, riding my bike, workout tapes (Yes, I still use VHS), and I have the Mirror (which I enjoy).
I haven’t set foot in a gym since starting my journey. I have equipment at home (weights, kettlebells, stability ball, and resistance bands).
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
I started at 262 pounds, and I currently weigh 228 pounds.
What is your height?
I’m 5’8″.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey with Terry Starks on May 17th, 2021, and in 35 days, I was able to shed 28 pounds. Terry and I will continue to work together until I reach my ideal weight, so more change is coming!
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I have never had weight loss surgery.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
My biggest lesson has probably been eating the correct portion sizes. Terry’s meal plan seemed like it wouldn’t be enough food, but I was COMPLETELY wrong! We don’t need to eat as much as these restaurants, and family members serve us! On a personal note, I learned that I could truly be disciplined when I focus, which has helped me grow my counseling practice, Enhancing Success LLC.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Call Terry! Honestly, once I changed my eating habits, it is like I stepped into another world. One thing Terry talks about is focusing on yourself and not broadcasting your process. That has been great for me. I have no distractions, and I’m not in competition with anyone but myself.
