Update 2020: Shout out to Alashia! She’s down 67 pounds. We asked her how she has maintained her success.
How have you maintained your weight loss/continued to lose weight? I maintained my weight by being mindful of my carb intake, lifting weights, and eating protein. When I do have carbs in my diet, I eat brown rice, sweet potato, whole wheat, etc. Since I’ve reached my goal, I don’t do cardio like I used to. I’m not trying to lose any more weight. I’m in the stage of toning up.
Of the lessons you’ve learned on this journey, what stands out the most?
Self-control and determination. This journey has taught me the ability to control unwanted eating habits that I don’t want to go back to. I can feel and see the difference and changes in my body. Wealth is health.
At this point, would you offer any new or different advice to women who want to lose weight?
I would say that it’s all in the mindset. When you’re ready, you’ll know what you have to do to make the right decisions for yourself. Find a diet that works for you (I recommend keto for faster results). Once you reach your goal, make sure you get a lot of protein intake, drink water, and do workouts that help you specific target areas you want to mold. Don’t give up, and do not get discouraged. The results will show. Keep pushing yourself. – @AlashiaXO

Transformation of the Day: Alashia lost 54 pounds. When she started to experience health issues, she looked to her mother’s successful weight loss journey for motivation. With a low carb lifestyle, self-love and lots of exercise, she has transformed. Check out her journey.
What was your motivation?
What motivated me to lose weight was my mom. I was starting to have health problems, and I didn’t know where to start. However, my mom was in the same shoes that I was in a few years ago because she used to weigh 300 pounds. Now, she weighs 205 pounds. She is someone that I can look up to and talk with about my issues dealing with my health.
What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
What kept me motivated were the results. I was starting to feel better and look better. I noticed that I had so much more energy as well. When I saw the numbers dropping on the scale, that just made me want to go harder and harder each day.
How did you change your eating habits?
I’ve been on a low carb journey since April 2018. I went on a strict low carb diet, cutting out bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, and sugars (cereal, candy, sodas, etc.) for three weeks. I let my body get into ketosis. During that third week, I started to have one cheat day a week. Really, my diet was based on white meat, eggs, and veggies.
What did your workout routine consist of?
Mainly cardio, home workouts (abs, arms, butt) and weight lifting. I work out 5 times a week for an hour and 20 minutes.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 251 pounds, and my current weight is 197 pounds.
What is your height?
5’3″
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
April 14, 2018. It took eight months.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Self-love. Self-love is about taking care of you and doing what’s best for yourself. I’m learning to accept myself more and more each day.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
It’s all about consistency and your mindset. You have to be determined. It really takes hard work and dedication. Never get discouraged or back down.
You can do it. Won’t be easy at first. As long as you fight for what you need and see results, you’ll feel so relieved.
