Transformation of the Day: Ada lost 50 pounds. She joined a local 30-day challenge and transformed her body by tracking macros and working out 5 to 6 days a week. Eventually, this breast cancer warrior made it to the stage as a fitness competitor. In Oct 2022, she won 2nd place in Figure Masters and Figure Open at the GBO Kings and Queens show.

My weight loss journey started in January 2021. I was at my heaviest weight ever of 190 pounds. My once very active lifestyle had come to a standstill during the pandemic. My joints hurt, and my blood pressure was going up at my doctor appointments. I was on the verge of being placed on blood pressure medications, and that was my breaking point.
I started by competing in a 30-day challenge by The BodyShop HTX in Houston, Texas, under the coaching of Ian Buchanan. This challenge was the jump start I needed. I was motivated by wanting to feel and look better. As the weight started to come off, my joints felt better, and my back no longer hurt.
The changes that contributed to my success included macro dieting and weight training. Macro dieting allowed me to plan my meals based on my intake of carbs, fats, and proteins without being very strict. I could virtually have whatever I wanted as long as it fit my macro plan.
When it came to the workouts, I worked out 5 to 6 days a week. The 30-day challenge provided workout plans that could be done at the gym or at home, so I didn’t have any excuse to miss a workout. My results came from a combination of cardio and weight lifting.
I won the 30-day challenge and decided to keep training with Ian and try to get on the fitness competition stage. I was no stranger to competing, but life happens, and I wanted to take back control of my fitness.
I competed in two shows in 2021, one in October and the 2nd in December. The end of the year marked a total of 50 pounds lost in 12 months.
Prior to getting onto the stage in December, I weighed 140 pounds. I am very happy to see this current weight on my 5’5″ frame. I feel better and stronger.
My current regimen is weight training with cardio six days a week and a balanced diet so I can return to the fitness competition stage at the end of October 2022. This time I will be competing in pink as a breast cancer warrior. Diagnosed in December 2021, I underwent surgery and radiation at the beginning of this year. I really think that my weight loss journey last year had a positive effect on my prognosis and healing after treatment. [She won! See her Instagram post.]

The biggest lesson and advice I give to women is that if you didn’t gain it overnight, don’t expect to lose it overnight. Fitness is a journey, and we must give ourselves grace when we feel like giving up.
I didn’t have weight loss surgery or special supplements. However, for those who decide to get the surgery, most will tell you there is no easy way out. Discipline is paramount in maintaining results.
I’m so thankful to Ian at Bodyshop HTX for working with me to figure out how to adjust my training and meal plan in conjunction with my cancer treatment plan.
No matter what happens on that stage this year, I truly feel like a champion!
