What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I had high blood pressure (dangerously high at some points), and I thought a permanent solution was the best option for me at the time. Also, my Mother had a history of obesity and heart problems. I was 36 at the time of my gastric sleeve surgery and felt it was time for a drastic change.
How did you change your eating habits?
Because I had gastric sleeve surgery, I have to eat a high-protein diet. I was never a snacker/soda drinker prior to surgery, but I couldn’t lose the weight because I was drinking alcohol, eating out often, and just not being mindful of my nutritional intake.
What is your workout routine?
I actually don’t have a set workout routine right now. I lost 70 pounds doing close to nothing, lol. However, I’ve started walking in nature and playing tennis again to increase my endurance.
I’m not a gym girlie. I like simple, fun workouts that get me out of the house.
How often did you work out?
I work out two to three times per week. I don’t like a highly regimented workout schedule, and I believe any movement is better than none.
What was your starting weight?
I weighed 310 pounds on surgery day, 03/26/2024 (see hospital photo)
What is your current weight?
I currently weigh 240 pounds as of February 16, 2025. I would like to lose another 25-30 lbs.
What is your height?
I’m 5’7”. I went from a size 18/20 to a 14/16. I also went from size 3x in shirts to a 1x.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
March 26, 2024, so I’m close to a year out from surgery.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Weight loss looks different for everyone, regardless of the method you choose. For a while, I was so consumed with the “average weight loss” for gastric sleeve patients. I thought I wasn’t losing enough fast enough. However, many factors contribute to an individual’s weight loss. I’m actually happy with where I am right now because I have so much opportunity to feel better than I do already.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Your weight loss journey is personal to you, and you don’t owe anyone an explanation. Do your research and choose the nutrition plan, the workout routine, or the surgery that works for you.
