What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
In March, I went to the doctor and learned that I was facing numerous health challenges. I was diagnosed with mild nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, hypertension, high cholesterol, and prediabetes, all from being obese and having a sedentary lifestyle. From that day forward, I was determined to take control of my health by reversing these conditions by lifestyle modification so that I could be here for my husband and daughters.
How did you change your eating habits?
As suggested by my doctor, I started with intermittent fasting. I avoid fried and high-sodium foods. I also avoid alcohol and sugary drinks. My diet includes grilled chicken, salmon, tuna, whole grains, fruits, vegetables and nuts.
What is your workout routine?
I do 40-45 minutes of cardio five days a week and weight training three times a week. My cardio routine includes the treadmill, elliptical, and the stairmaster.
How often did you work out?
I work out five days a week.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
When I began my weight loss journey, I weighed 255 pounds. I now weigh 180 pounds. My goal weight is 165 pounds.
What is your height?
I’m 5’3″.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started mid-March, so it took me about nine months to lose 75 pounds.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, I did not have any surgery. However, I fully support anyone who has made that tough decision to do so.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
I learned that it is important to celebrate non-scale victories, too. Celebrate having more energy, clearer skin, mental clarity, and confidence.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Show up for yourself by being disciplined and consistent about your goals. Set manageable goals. It’s not selfish to put yourself first. A one-hour workout is only 4% of your day. Make yourself proud. You can do it!
