Transformation of the Day: La Shanda lost 106 pounds. Her wellness journey began after she was diagnosed with diabetes in 2019. She shared with us how she transformed her lifestyle by putting in work at the gym and using tools like keto and intermittent fasting.
On March 18, 2019, at age 49, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I did not want to take medication. At that point, I became determined to reverse the disease and gain control over my health.
I started going to the gym daily, lifting weights, and doing cardio five times a week. I also started eating a Ketogenic diet.
After 90 days of consistent weight training and eating a ketogenic diet, I lost 40 pounds and lowered my A1c to 6.7. My doctor was amazed. He called me a “rock star and told me to keep doing what I was doing…healing my body!
I worked out with a group of gym goers who showed up daily, and we pushed each other to work hard. I became stronger and fitter than I was in my thirties.
By March 2020, I had lost 60 pounds! Then Covid hit, and my gym closed down! I had a few weights at home and did some home exercises, but eventually, my weight loss stalled, and I gained 12 pounds.
On May 7, 2021, I returned to the gym and hired a trainer to help motivate me to get back into my fitness routine.’ He also helped me with accountability. I worked hard, and for the first time in over 20 years, I got under 200 pounds. I went from a size 18/20 to a size 10! My trainer entered me into an eight-week weight loss competition, and in two months, I weighed in at 180 pounds.
When I began my weight loss journey, I weighed 290 pounds. I now weigh 184 pounds. My goal is 170 lbs.
My advice to women trying to get fit is to take one day at a time. Get into a theme of consistency. Show up even when you don’t feel like showing up. Keep moving forward, and you’ll get there.
At age 53, I feel great. My Type 2 diabetes is under control, and I’ve never taken any medication. I continue to eat a ketogenic diet along with intermittent fasting. I also have some days where I eat a carnivore diet. Weight training and a few days of cardio are a part of my lifestyle.
Stay tuned for my update! I am working on my final fourteen pounds of weight loss.
